Background

Dennaton Games is an independent Swedish video game developer based in Stockholm. Founded in 2012 by programmer Jonatan Söderström and artist Dennis Wedin, they are best known for their Hotline Miami series of top-down shooter games. The name "Dennaton" is a portmanteau of "Dennis" and "Jonatan", the company's founders.

Visuals: Following the Devolver Digital and Abstraction Games logos, we begin on a black background. The halves of two blue faces come in from the left and right respectively, and join in the middle. This causes the background to suddenly turn multicolored, strange liquid appears from behind the faces, and eight yellow bullets, with four on each side, pop out from behind. Beneath all of this is the bluish-pink text "DENNATON" with "Games" below, in red. The logo abruptly ends with static, as the game begins.

Trivia: The two faces are of Jonatan and Dennis.

Variants:

  • The logo is animated slightly differently on Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number; the faces start out black and white then turn to color when they collide, blood replaces the multicolored liquid behind the faces and switchblades appear and fold outward instead of bullets. The logo also doesn't end with static, and instead fades to black.
  • A variant unique to their website appears at the top, where the "DENNATON" text is outlined instead of being filled in, and the "GAMES" font is different.

Technique: 2D computer animation, made to look pixelated.

Audio: A synthesized slam when the faces collide and a strange, droning synth sound, followed by static sounds when the screen goes static.

Audio Variants: The logo is quieter on Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number.

Availability: Can be found at the start of Hotline Miami and its sequel, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, for PC, PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Stadia. The print logo appears in trailers, and the website variant can be found on their website.

Legacy: A unique, interesting logo, only matched by the games it precedes.
