Background

Dharma Productions Pvt. Ltd. is an Indian production and distribution company established by Yash Johar in 1979. It was taken over in 2004 after his death by his son Karan Johar. Based in Mumbai, it mainly produces and distributes Hindi films. In November 2018, a new sector of the company was created called Dharmatic, which will focus on producing digital content for online distribution platforms.



1st Logo (1998-2001)


Visuals: A sun rises quickly from sea, while it reveals the text "DHARMA" with "PRODUCTIONS" under it. When the sun fully rises, the logo stops.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The opening theme of the movie.

Availability: Seen on Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and other films released by this company from the era.

2nd Logo (December 14, 2001-August 11, 2006)

Visuals: The screen slowly zooms-out from a plain steel buddhist statue (Ganesh). As the statue pans slowly to the left, orange fog comes out above the statue, forming the text "dharma productions". The entire logo fades out.

Variant: The fog is sometimes blue.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A female choir accompanied by some ominous Indian instruments based on the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai main theme from the movie.

Availability: Seen on films released by this company from the era. First seen on Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham. Also seen on films like Kal Ho Na Ho, Kabhi Abvidaa Na Kehna, among others.

3rd Logo (November 14, 2008-)


Visuals: Unknown.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, the words "PVT. LTD." are displayed at the bottom of "PRODUCTIONS".
    • On the trailer for Bhoot: Part One (2020), the logo appears in a scary format.
