  • 1980-1989: There is the Goodnight Kiwi on a chair in a control room with multiple television sets displaying static, along with The Cat sleeping on the control panel. The kiwi turns off the TVs, switches on a light by pulling its switch, and places a cassette into its own space and plays a lullaby. The cat wakes up and looks at the Kiwi, who yawns and leaves its chair and the control room, before jumping on the chair and following the Kiwi. As the Kiwi walks to the door, the cat moves and settles against a sky background and jumps a few times making faces, with the screen being displayed in the camera showing the cat against the background. After the Kiwi reaches the door, he switches off the lights and opens the door, before leaving a glass bottle with a paper sheet sticking out of it next to it. The cat leaves the building before the Kiwi closes the door, and moves up the stairs along with the Kiwi. The Kiwi takes an elevator to travel to the top of the satellite tower that is on top of the building, before landing on a satellite dish with a pillow on it and looking around the bottom of the environment. The Kiwi then takes off his shirt and covers himself with a blue-white checkerboard-textured blanket and puts his head on the pillow, as the cat pops up, lands on his stomach, and sleeps with the Kiwi. As the camera zooms out and fades to show a view of the tower, text reading
    Goodnight from
    TELEVISION NEW ZEALAND
    fades in below.
  • 1989-1994: Same as before, however, text reading "Goodnight from" fades in at the bottom of the screen instead, and the 1989 TV2 logo flips in next to the text.

Technique: Traditional animation.

Audio:

  • 1989-1994: Same as before, but a male voiceover is added at the end, saying "It's goodnight from Channel 2."
