Atama (October 1995-1996)

Videos

Visuals: There is a shirtless, goblin-like man (some people might think of Marilyn Manson) at a table with utensils. He breaks some food, and small, white, featureless humanoids come out. They climb on the man and enter his body through the orifices. He tries to stop some of them, but then his head bulges and eventually explodes from him sneezing. Then an M is formed by the white creatures, two of them with wings fly across, and a ribbon with "Music Television" written on it falls on the M. Intestines then come out of the stack and from "TV".

Technique: Stop-motion animation by Keito Kurosaka.

Audio: A bell note is heard at the start of the ID. The man gasps when he finds the creatures in his food, which is followed by shuffling from the creatures and the man panting in fear. Sneezing and a boom is heard when the man's head explodes and there is gobbling and a whistle sound when it cuts to the MTV logo.

Availability: Shown on Halloween.

Legacy: This logo is creative, but can be difficult to watch for some due to its disgusting nature. However, given that this was a Halloween logo, this was likely intentional.

Big Chew (1995-1998)

Videos

Visuals: Over a blue background, a blue humanoid character with two long black hairs, exaggerated cheeks and a red bow tie reaches into his torso, and pulls out a green bar of gum, with green slime leaking from his mouth afterwards. The gum bar has a yellow image of a man along with text reading "DULLARD," with "BIG CHEW" underneath it. He then starts to chew it, causing his face to warp in a surreal manner, eventually causing him to spit out orange slime, which he grabs and forms into the MTV logo.

Technique: 2D animation by Tom Cushwa.

Audio: A strange synth theme with giggling and other bodily sounds heard throughout, ending on a "splat."

Legacy: The subject matter of this logo is quite bizarre.

Bodybuilder (1995-1998)

Videos

Visuals: Against a blue background with green splotches, a shiny-bodied shirtless man with orange hair is seen from the side. He lifts his arm and flexes it, with the bicep growing into a mountain-like shape. There is then a close-up on his torso as he flexes the muscles there, straining himself as he does so. Eventually, the MTV logo is formed from his bulging chest muscles.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: Cartoonish swoosh sounds, creaking and a pop during the arm flex. A drum roll, groaning and more creaking sounds follow, and a cartoon popping sound and applause end it.

Cupid (1995-1998)

Videos

Visuals: There is a beating heart. It then cuts to an insect (unknown) with wings, which then flies up to the heart and starts ripping it apart, causing the heart to bleed everywhere, including on the screen. The blood then blends in with a transparent MTV logo.

Technique: A blend of 2D animation and live-action by Simon Pummell.

Audio: Ghostly ambience.

Availability: Likely shown around Valentine's Day.

Munch Scream (1995-1998)

Videos

Visuals: A recreation of "The Scream" by Edvard Munch is shown, with the man in the painting looking around before letting out a loud, drawn-out scream, which he prepares beforehand. The screen zooms into his uvula, which has the MTV logo on it drawn in white, before zooming out. The man then covers his mouth, as if he feels sick or exhausted.

Technique: Hand drawn animation by Stefano Koltsidopoulof.

Audio: A grunt, followed by the scream, and another mouth sound.

North/East (1995-1998)

Videos

Visuals: There is a time-lapse shot of a street in Times Square, with a horsedrawn carriage sitting in the center as cars go by. After the carriage leaves, the camera pans up to show a building, presumably a department store (a Wu-Tang Clan logo can be seen on the right side of it), with a double-paneled neon-lit sign atop it. Both sides of the sign have the MTV logo on a black-and-white shield on a yellow background, but either side reads "NORTH" or "EAST" on the top part of the shield. The lights in the rest of the shot dim (sans the MTV sign and the electronic billboard signage in the background) as the camera stops moving.

Technique: Live-action time-lapse footage.

Audio: A drum and bass tune with sounds of a city, ending with a reverse cymbal.

Surf Monster (1995-1998)

Videos

Visuals: Against a yellow sky, a green-skinned humanoid monster with standing ears, yellow hair and a long tongue surfs on a wave with a red surfboard. He performs stunts on it until he realizes he is about to crash into a pink M that is reflected in his eyes, which bug out in an exaggerated manner with visible veins. He gruesomely splatters into the M, and his guts stick to it to form the MTV logo.

Technique: 2D animation by Chuck Majewski.

Audio: A tune with drums and a guitar accompanied by shouting in the background, shifting to a quieter piece with a "thud" when the collision occurs. A metallic scrape and gooey sounds are heard afterwards.

Swallow Face (1995-1998)

Videos

Visuals: On a white background, there is a cartoon head, which morphs into several different faces. One of them forms the MTV logo, with a skin-like texture, which has blood and a dripping green liquid (presumably to resemble mucus, or booger) on it.

Technique: 2D animation by Patrick Smith.

Audio: A drum beat overlayed with "squish" sounds.

Legacy: This logo unnerved many due to the "body horror" concept.

Train (1995-1997)

Technique: Live-action footage.
