Background

Maxis Communications, also known as Maxis Berhad in Malay, is a Malaysian telecommunications company. It is one of the oldest telecommunications companies from the country, founded in 1993.

Maxis currently operates in the national internet and mobile carrier businesses, with Hotlink covering their prepaid plans. Aside from Malaysia, Maxis has international operations in multiple countries from Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and South America.

1st Tag (1996)

Visuals: At the end of the commercial, the screen zooms into space towards a battery-like spaceship. The camera rotates to show a bit of the Earth, along with another spaceship in the background. Throughout the footage, multiple horizontal white lines form at the bottom of the screen and form the Maxis logo (consists of the blue text "maxis" with the dot of the blue "i" replaced with a green scribble) near the bottom right of the screen, along with a green rectangle reading "KOMUNIKASI HIBURAN MAKLUMAT" ("COMMUNICATION ENTERTAINMENT INFORMATION") under the logo. The text "daripada Binariang" then flashes in and slightly shrinks at the bottom right of the screen.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The ending of the commercial, with an electronic piano rendition of the company's three-note tune.

2nd Tag (1999)

Visuals: In a dark environment, five hands come in with the company's letters on their palms, spelling out the company' name as the hands open. An abstract green shape resembling the scribble flies in as the sequence fades into a foggy white background with the company's logo. The shape settles above the "i", and two thin horizontal lines fly in underneath the logo, as a vertical line forms the text "net" with a trademark symbol next to it. The lines come in again, replacing the text with "mobile" with a registered trademark symbol next to it, followed by "connections" with a trademark symbol next to it. The text then fades out as the company's URL fades in under the logo.

Technique: Live-action and CGI.

Audio: The ending of the commercial, with a female choir singing the company's four-note jingle.

3rd Tag (2001-2020)

Visuals: Just the Maxis logo from before on a white background.

Variants:

  • On the 2002 Maxis EasyAccess commercial, the logo fades in.
  • On the 2003 M-Plans commercial, the logo is out of focus at it zooms from the camera. It gains more focus throughout the process.
  • On the 2004 "I can..." commercial, green lines are first shown over a green-white gradient background before the camera zooms out, as the lines are forming the green scribble with "maxIs" (as a 3D outline) flips in letter-by-letter before fading into its usual color. The logo then flips into the Hotlink logo from the time, before flipping back into the Maxis logo.
  • On the 2004 Hari Raya and Deepavali commercial, the Hotlink logo from the time flips into the Maxis logo, with the scribble flipping in above the "I".
  • On the MAXIS Beautiful Game commercial, a soccer ball rolls in, forming the following navy text: "Football. Gets the world talking.". The word "Football" fades away as "Maxis" fades in at its place.
  • On the 2007 Pelan Maxis Family Plus commercial, the text "Mendekatkan perhubungan" is under the logo.
  • On a commercial from 2008 promoting their services, an astronaut flies past the logo as it says "Hello!" towards the screen.
  • On the 2008 Maxis Pelan Value Plus Family commercial, the company's URL is beneath the logo.
  • On the Maxis On the Ball commercial, the text "On the Ball" is beneath the "Is" portion of the logo, and the Hotlink logo is at the bottom left of the screen.
  • On the Jejak Rasul 15 & Istimewa Ramadhan SMS Percuma commercial, the letters and the registered trademark symbol of the logo pop up as the scribble spins in and settles above the "I".
  • Starting from 2014, the logo has brighter colors.

Technique: Either a digital graphic, or 2D computer animation.

Audio: The ending of the commercial.

4th Tag (2020-)

Visuals: A scribble transitions from the end of the commercial to a white background with the Maxis scribble from before with the company name in blue under it. The camera then slightly zooms into the scene, filling up the entire footage.

Variants:

  • A still variant of the tag exists.
  • An early variation of this tag features a green shape moving from the left of the screen towards the center to form the Maxis scribble. The scribble then zooms slightly from the camera and slightly moves to the right as the blue texts "maxis" and "Always Be Ahead" pop out from it, spaced between the scribble.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: The ending of the commercial.

Availability: Seen on their commercials released in this era, such as the Maxis Home Fibre | A better home WiFi experience awaits, When Superkids talk Superfast WiFi, and Magic At Home commercials.
