Background

PBS NewsHour, formerly called The Robert MacNeil Report, The MacNeil/Lehrer Report, The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour, and The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, is an weekday evening news program broadcast on PBS since 1975.

1st Logo (November 7th, 1975-October 3rd, 1976)

Visuals: Superimposed over the newsdesk of the episode, a crudely-drawn face (Robert MacNeil) draws in, along with the text "the Robert MacNeil report" in MacNeil's handwriting.

Closing Variants: Before the credits appear, the end result of the opening version fades in.

Technique: Hand-drawn animation, with chyron effects for superimposing.

Audio: A brass piece, ending with three drum hits. This was composed by Bernard Hoffer.
