Background

ETA, standing for Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (English: Basque Homeland and Liberty) was a separatist terrorist group in the Basque region of Spain and France. The group had been active from 1959 until declaring a cessation of it's armed operations in 2018. The group has been said to have been responsible for the deaths of over 800 people and injuring over 20000 people.
