Background

Europa TV was a consortium of five European broadcasters from West Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands and Portugal. It started transmissions on October 5th, 1985, and was initially available in the Netherlands. Europa TV transmitted on several sound channels within facilities for simultaneous translation (English, Dutch, German and Portuguese) has enabled audiences to receive the channel in their native language. Additionally, subtitling in different languages was provided by teletext. It has ceased operations on November 29, 1986 after having already exhausted it's initial three-year budget.

Visuals: On a horizontal black-gray gradient background with a gray-black gradient floor on the bottom, a 3D gold triangle rotates and rises upwards, to reveal a fading, barely visible bottom part of a white triangle, which rotates aswell. One of the faces of the 3D triangle opens to reveal a gold rectangle with a black rectangle outline and the text "EUROPA", both inside it, which starts smaller and zooms in whilst rotating, and settles into place. The face of the 3D rectangle then closes.

Variant: Rarely, a white animated dove that may have been inside the triangle is seen as it flies out.

Technique: 3D animation.

Audio: A new-age orchestral-like piece. Sometimes accompanied by an announcer.
