Background

First Channel, otherwise known as 1TV, is the national television broadcaster of Georgia, owned and operated by Georgian Public Broadcaster. It was established in 1956 as Georgian Television and would eventually be rebranded as First Channel sometime after the fall of the USSR. The station is accessed by around 85% of the Georgian population.

1st ID (1993-1996)

Visuals: On a pulsating blue background is a drawn image of a gray statue with a mother and her two kids, with the latter both holding what appears to be a sword. Above the statue is text that reads "ქართული ტელევიზიის" and below that is "პროგრამა".

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: Unknown.

Availability: As with the company's 1956 ident, the only found video footage thus far was spotted in a news program special.

2nd ID (1999-2001)

Visuals: The sequence starts with four stacked lines expanding sideways from the crease, forming the station's logo, all of which shine brightly in the process. The lines left of the crease are straight, whilst the lines are curved on the right side. Once the lights dim out and the lines are fully drawn in, the opacity of the shape decreases and the camera turns upwards, revealing an s-shaped curve at the back. A light briefly shines on the crease of the top line as Georgian text reading "საქართველოს ტელევიზიის პირველი არხი fades in below. Afterwards, the logo and text both begin waving line a flag in the wind, as a lens flare is seen shining in the top-right corner.

Technique: CGI and live-action.

Audio: An upbeat piano rock tune, which is actually "Winter Games" by David Foster.

3rd ID (2001-2004)

Visuals: The curved shape seen from the previous logo is seen in the center, now in gold. Below, there is Georgian text that reads "პირველი არხი", which starts off spaced out before they slide closer to each other, with two of the ი's "jumping" in front of the letters to switch spots before the text is in position. On the bottom of the screen, there is the network's old URL: www.GeoTVR.ge, which types itself in.

Variants: There are five different idents which all have a unique appearance:

  • One ident is set on a red-orange light background, where the sequence consists of a countdown starting from 5 with each number being white. Each number appears by turning from the left whilst various movements involving Georgian text, circles and light streaks are seen. Between the 4 and 3, a closeup shot of two W's typing themselves in (representing "www" in URLs) is shown and below is the company name fading in via a stretching effect, followed by five white triangles appearing on the right side before subsequently disappearing. After the 2 is shown, the logo appears, taking place as the 1 before it shines and flashes. This is followed with the generic sequence described above, all whilst circle and text patterns animate in the background.
  • Another ident is set on a green background with vertically rectangular lights sliding sideways and small arrayed dots, with the sequence starting off with the animation described in the visuals section. This is followed by two short clips of Georgia playing side-by-side, both of which are separated by a line of what appears to be small Unicode characters. Each of the clips are alternated via a fading effect, showing a total of six different clips. As this is happening, there are several shots of the company name typing itself in and expanding, which is accompanied with four connected lines of different shades of gray placed underneath before both the lines and text fade out. The URL is seen typing itself in before the sequence fades into the aforementioned sequence shown at the start.
  • One ident utilizes slightly different animation for the logo and text from the others. Here, it starts with the logo inside a transparent box over a red background accompanied with lines and squares. This is followed by a video of a group of people wearing dark blue T-shirts and red dyed hair dancing over a blue background with the translucent network logo floating around. The text animates in the same fashion as with the other idents, however this time, the URL is omitted and the logo appears left of the text rather than above it.
  • There are three other idents that are currently missing:
    • One of those idents is set on a similar background as the first ident in this sequence, with the addition of various colored squares.
    • Another ident is set on a black background with a red and blue light and a rectangular grid with white lines.
    • Another ident is set on a blue background and the logo is seen shining a gold light.

Technique: CGI, sometimes accompanied with live action.

Audio: Depends on the ident:

  • The first ident described uses a calm piano and synth theme accompanied with synth chimes, ending with a four-note jingle.
  • The second ident uses a calming synth jingle, followed by a proud fanfare with another calm synth jingle accompanying it before concluding with an angelic held note.
  • The third one uses a dance-pop tune with a three-note outro.

4th ID (2004-2006)

Visuals: There is stacked gray text reading "პირველი არხი" with a red rectangle next to it on the right. The rectangle's bottom right corner is folded upwards and has a "1" carved inside it.

Technique: Possibly CGI.

Audio: Unknown.

Availability: Only a screenshot of the ident is avaiable online.

5th ID (2006-2008)

Visuals: So far, there exist two variations of this ident, both featuring the conjoined letters "სსმ" (standing for "საქართველოს საზოგადოებრივი მაუწყებელი") over a white background.

Variants:

  • The main variant has the logo in teal with small blue crystals on the right.
  • A Christmas variant shows the logo in blue, which is tilted slightly upwards and on an angle. There are red and orange presents and a few white crystals strewn across the setting, with the company's old URL (www.gpb.ge) at the top.

Technique: Possibly CGI.

Audio: Unknown.

Availability: As of right now, there are only two still images of the idents available on the web.

6th ID (2008-2010)

Visuals: All idents are set over a time-lapsed background. On the left, there is a person or group of people doing a specific action. After five seconds, a thin, white vertical light flashes and rotates vertically to the left, revealing a glassy 1 with a slightly twisted top half. The number reflects the face of the person/people as "განწყობისთვის არხი" fades in from either side of the 1. A light then briefly wipes onto the text.

Variants: Eight different idents exist, each consisting of the following:

  • A grape farmer pouring a basket of green and white grapes.
  • Two rugby players, with the player holding the ball being tackled.
  • A fisherman throwing a net into a river.
  • A mountain climber hanging off the ledge of a mountain.
  • A romantic couple at the beach during sunset, with the man carrying the woman.
  • Three women walking along a busy street at night.
  • A young girl standing in front of a colorful building.
  • A priest in a black robe standing near a church.
  • A family of three outside in the snow, with gold lights glowing on the trees in the back.

Technique: Live action and CGI animation.

Audio: A light, uplifting piano jingle.

7th ID (2010-2013)

Visuals: On a white-light gray gradient background with several white specks across the right half, there is a white rectangle reminiscent of an A4 sheet of paper that flips and zooms out, placing itself behind the specks. The rectangle folds itself into thirds from left to right, then the bottom right corner is folded upward in the back, followed by the top right corner being folded downwards, thus forming a 1. Next to the numeral, there is the company URL: "1TV.GE", which appears via a slide effect.

Technique: CGI animation.

Audio: A reversed held piano note, followed with a light three-note piano piece.

8th ID (2013-2016)

Visuals: Against a purple background, a spotlight zooms out and two glassy ribbons (one blue and the other violet) fly out from it, swirling in a counterclockwise direction as they zoom in and merge. The circles then fades into thin streaks before disappearing as a blue square and purple rectangle appear by turning themselves. The square has a 1 with two diagonal lines atop it and the rectangle has "TV.GE" written inside it. A lens flare shines on the logo as the background turns to a blue-black gradient.

Variants:

  • There exists four different Christmas idents:
    • There was one Christmas ident that aired in 2013: A transparent Christmas tree forms itself. The bottom of the tree shows five red 1s, which are formed alongside the tree. The tree spins in a counterclockwise direction as the camera zooms out, and handwritten red Georgian text writes itself in on the left side. The background shows a gray silhouetted forest and snow is seen blowing towards the camera.
    • 2015 showed six different idents:
      • One ident is set outside a toy shop. Seen through the window, are two children, a boy and a girl. The girl picks up a white reindeer and hands it over to the boy.
      • Another ident displays video footage recorded from a moving car. White glowing stars are seen passing by, before two children at the back of the car are seen, with one of them pointing at sais stars in astonishment.
      • Another ident shows a woman looking through the window of a shop. The same woman is later seen inside, looking around the shop.
      • Another one shows a large Christmas tree structure placed in the middle of a major roundabout. The tree is glowing light blue and has a golden statue placed atop it.
      • There's also one that shows a city street with light blue stars placed on the road, connected by a think line in the same color.
      • There exists another ident that shows the aforementioned Christmas tree in the roundabout. This time, the camera pans towards the right before it displays three women taking a selfie in front of the tree.
        • All idents share the same animation sequence: The sequence switches to five different video clips via a drop effect. The 3rd and 5th shots both show a window with an icy rectangle at the bottom. In the 3rd shot, a white present, reindeer and bauble are shown on the bottom left corner, whereas the 5th shot has a different bauble, two candles and a snowflake replacing the previous 3 shapes and a bluer icy square on the left side. Inside the square, the logo forms itself out of blue spinning particles.
  • There's a special ident where the number 90 in gold forms itself, with various electrical items inside (including light bulbs, switches and wires). Behind are two gold rings and in front of the 90 is the outline of the number and various circles outlining the light bulbs. As the lights blink, the company logo forms itself via its aforementioned unfolding animation on the right side of the screen (with the rectangle being either violet or gold). This was made to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Georgian Public Broadcaster.

Technique: CGI animation. Live action and 2D computer animation for the 2015 Christmas idents.

Audio: A dramatic, upbeat trumpet tune.

Audio variants:

  • The 90 year anniversary special has a mellow electronic piano piece with the accompanying sound of electrical buzzing.
  • The 2013 Christmas ident is silent.
  • The 2015 Christmas idents have two different music variations:
    • An eight-note light synth-bell tune with a faint angelic choir.
    • A festive-sounding bell jingle with a light bell toll at the end.
    • A high pitched seven-note bell theme accompanied with the sound of fireworks.

9th ID (2016-2018)

Visuals: Several red triangles fold themselves in from bottom to top, forming a larger triangle. Then, another triangle, this time the same size as the aforementioned triangle made of smaller ones, folds itself in from behind, forming a vertical parallelogram representing the numeral 1. A light briefly wipes onto the right side of the 1 as 1tv.ge rises up from a red line that briefly slides from left to right at the bottom. The triangles at the bottom of the 1 can be seen repeatedly changing opacity.

Variants:

  • Early airings (specifically from 2016) use a slightly different logo, which is the same parralellogram shaped 1 but with a dark red triangle attached on the right side. A "1" is shown in said triangle.
  • In 2016, there was an anniversary ident: The logo is animated as previously mentioned (albeit with the 2016 logo used instead). After the logo is formed, it moves to the left and a black line rises up, to which a red square with the number 60 inside slides to the right as the number turns. Below the square is stacked red text reading "წელი ერთად", which rises up, and at the bottom of the screen is "public.ge".
  • Later airings of the ident have the URL fade in next to the 1 as the latter folds itself in. After the numeral is formed, gray triangles of differentiating opacities fold themselves out in the background.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: A five-note electronic piece, with robotic whooshing sounds accompanying the folding triangles.

Audio variant: Later airings used a different five-note synth piece.

10th ID (2018-2020)

Visuals: There are three different shots of silhouetted people walking across a white and red floor. Among the people are several small black dots making circle or line shapes whilst leaving behind a trail. As the camera zooms out from the third shot, several red triangles fold themselves over the white field before copies of a large triangle fold themselves over the red field, forming the network's logo. As the logo zooms into place, several black dots leaving behind trails make a square, diamond or circle shape before fading out whilst a red rectangle with "1TV.GE" unfolds itself on the right side of the screen.

Variant: A shortened version exists.

Technique: CGI animation.

Audio: Robotic sound effects accompanying an ambient futuristic tune.

Audio Variant: The shortened variant uses a held note, which is followed by a high-pitched 5 note synth piece.

11th ID (2019-2020)

Visuals: The background consists of numerous white cubes, a red triangle on the bottom left corner and the channel logo made of red triangles on the opposite side. There is also a thin bent line in the centerand four abstract electronic signs at its corner. A red square flips to the left as the camera zooms out and turns counter-clockwise, placing itself in the center. Numerous white squares zoom into the square, forming the logo as a gray rectangle with "პირველი არხი" inside it wipes in from the left, below the logo. The rectangle shines at the top, then 1TV.GE fades in, placed opposite the electronics.

Technique: CGI animation.

Audio: A light electronic tune with beeping sounds.

12th ID (2020-2021)

Visuals: The camera zooms away from the 1, which is white in appearance. In front of it is a white square outline with rounded corners accompanied with the text "პირველი არხი", which is placed on the bottom left corner of the square. The camera zooms out before stopping at a comfortable position, in which the company logo is formed completely.

Technique: Motion-controlled animation utilizing CGI modelling and live action.

Audio: Depends on the ident.

13th ID (2021-June 29, 2022)

Visuals: The channel's logo in red is displayed over a white background, with a zoomed in 3D model of the logo accompanying the latter. A black line draws itself from the right to the logo, then "პირველი არხი|1TV.GE" appears via a rising-dropping effect above the line, accompanied with "რედიო" dropping down below.

Variants: There are a few different idents with varying backgrounds. The animation plays the same on each ident: four thin white lines draw themselves in, arranged to look like the station's logo. The shape is filled with white from the bottom and a horizontal line draws itself in on the right. "პირველი არხი" fades in above the line, followed by "1TV.GE" beneath. The different backgrounds used are:

  • A birds-eye view of a dense forest.
  • A grassy valley with sheep with a house and roads in the distance.

Technique: CGI animation. live action and 2D computer animation for the variants.

Audio: Depends on the ident:

  • None for the generic variant.
  • A light stringed instrument tune plays in the dense forest variant.
  • The sheep variant plays another stringed instrument tune before segueing into a mellow synth piece with the sounds of bleating sheep.

14th ID (June 30, 2022-)

Visuals: Over a red background, five copies of the parallelogram shaped 1 zoom out, followed by a rounded square with said number carved inside. A light is seen shining behind the square, seeping through the outer and inner edges. Once the logo is in position, the background becomes slightly lighter in appearance and the square fades to white. Below, there is the station's URL (1TV.GE) which fades in via a blur effect.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, the background is black and the square is red.
  • There exists a longer variation of the ident, which starts with fourteen different clips that each focus on one the network's TV presenters. This is followed by the logo zooming out from the cut-out 1 before the background fades to black and "უყურე პირველ არხს" appears below. There's a faint white hexagon outline in the background and "1TV.GE|1TVPLAY" is displayed on the bottom.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: A calm 7-note piano jingle.

Audio variant: The music on the extended variant is played on an electric guitar.
