Background

First Channel, otherwise known as 1TV, is the national television broadcaster of Georgia. It was established in 1956 as Georgian Television and would eventually be rebranded as First Channel sometime after the fall of the USSR. It is owned and operated by Georgian Public Broadcaster and is accessed by around 85% of the Georgian population.

1st Ident (1993-1996)

Visuals: Unknown.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: Unknown.

Availability: As with the company's 1956 ident, the only found video footage thus far was spotted in a news

2nd Ident (1999-2001)

Visuals: The sequence starts with four stacked lines expanding sideways from the crease, forming the station's logo, all of which shine brightly in the process. The lines left of the crease are straight, whilst the lines are curved on the right side. Once the lights dim out and the lines are fully drawn in, the opacity of the shape decreases and the camera turns upwards, revealing an s-shaped curve at the back. A light briefly shines on the crease of the top line as Georgian text reading "საქართველოს ტელევიზიის პირველი არხი fades in below. Afterwards, the logo and text both begin waving line a flag in the wind, as a lens flare is seen shining in the top-right corner.

Technique: CGI and live-action.

Audio: An upbeat piano rock tune.

3rd Ident (2001-2004)

Visuals: The curved shape seen from the previous logo is seen in the center, now in gold. Below is Georgian text that reads "პირველი არხი", which starts off spaced out before they slide closer to each other, with two of the ი's "jumping" in front of the letters to switch spots before the text is in position. On the bottom of the screen is the network's old URL: www.GeoTVR.ge, which types itself in.

Variants: There are five different idents which all have a unique appearance:

  • One ident is set on a red-orange light background, where the sequence consists of a countdown starting from 5 with each number being white. Each number appears by turning from the left whilst various movements involving Georgian text, circles and light streaks are seen. Between the 4 and 3, a closeup shot of two W's typing themselves in (representing "www" in URLs) is shown and below is the company name fading in via a stretching effect, followed by five white triangles appearing on the right side before subsequently disappearing. After the 2 is shown, the logo appears, taking place as the 1 before it shines and flashes. This is followed with the generic sequence described above, all whilst circle and text patterns animate in the background.
  • Another ident is set on a green background with vertically rectangular lights sliding sideways and small arrayed dots, with the sequence starting off with the animation described in the visuals section. This is followed by two short clips of Georgia playing side-by-side, both of which are separated by a line of what appears to be small Unicode characters. Each of the clips are alternated via a fading effect, showing a total of six different clips. As this is happening, there are several shots of the company name typing itself in and expanding, which is accompanied with four connected lines of different shades of gray placed underneath before both the lines and text fade out. The URL is seen typing itself in before the sequence fades into the aforementioned sequence shown at the start.
  • One ident utilizes slightly different animation for the logo and text from the others. Here, it starts with the logo inside a transparent box over a red background accompanied with lines and squares. This is followed by a video of a group of people wearing dark blue T-shirts and red dyed hair dancing over a blue background with the translucent network logo floating around. The text animates in the same fashion as with the other idents, however this time, the URL is omitted and the logo appears left of the text rather than above it.
  • There are three other idents that are currently missing:
    • One of those idents is set on a similar background as the first ident in this sequence, with the addition of various colored squares.
    • Another ident is set on a black background with a red and blue light and a rectangular grid with white lines.
    • Another ident is set on a blue background and the logo is seen shining a gold light.

Technique: CGI, sometimes accompanied with live action.

Audio: Depends on the ident:

  • The first ident described uses a calm piano and synth theme accompanied with synth chimes, ending with a four-note jingle.
  • The second ident uses a calming synth jingle, followed by a proud fanfare with another calm synth jingle accompanying it before concluding with an angelic held note.
  • The third one uses a dance-pop tune with a three-note outro.

The number reflects the face of the person/people as [Georgian text] fades in from either side of the 1. A light then briefly wipes onto the text.

Variants: Eight different idents exist, each consisting of the following:

  • A grape farmer pouring a basket of green and white grapes.
