Forum:Ruling on nicknames

I think there should be a rule on nicknames, they should be simple and catchy, but not too wordy, over-dramatic, or have too much emphasis on the "scariness" of the logo. I've seen a lot of logos here have too many nicknames, most of them are wordy, redundant, or too specific, and I doubt anyone but the writer used the nicknames anyway. A while ago I removed a nickname from the Bum Motion Pictures (South Korea) page that referenced bum as in butt, even though it wouldn't make any sense in a South Korean context anyway. I apologize if this has been discussed before and/or if there's already a rule on this, but I skimmed the rules page and there's none. |

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I feel the whole thing of having nicknames as part of logo description is kinda redundant. I'm pretty sure in most cases nobody ever uses the 'nicknames' of a logo - I don't think I've even seen people call it 'Ultra Majestic Tower' or 'The Searchlights V' in casual conversation, they just call it the '1994 20th Century Fox Logo'. for instance. Sure, there are some cases where nicknames are used enough to the point of being tied to a logo, say the 'V of Doom', but that could easily fit in the Editor's Note. At the very least, we should stick with 1-3 simple nicknames for a logo at most, some I've seen have 12, only like 1 that ever gets use. |
