Background

Greenstone Pictures is a New Zealand television production company founded by John Harris in 1994, who produce shows - popular factual, entertainment, drama and documentary. They have also created characters, documented histories and captured real-life stories - around one hundred documentaries in total, and more than 100 series.

1st Logo (1994-2000)

Visuals: On an orange/yellow/blue-gradient background, there is an island with a yellow sun along with two mountains, with one of them shaded lightly, and the other which is shaded in dark. Suddenly, "GREENSTONE" in green and in an uppercase Times New Roman font rises up from the bottom going one letter at a time until it stops to the center which is where it can face the viewer. Then, a green oval which contains a word "pictures" with the same font, but in lowercase this time, appears and emerges from the bottom of the first word and stops straight into where it faces the viewer. Also, the company's name is reflecting from the water. After all of that, the image freezes and fades out.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Either a waterfall sound or even the end theme.

Availability: Seen on old prints of Cave Creek, Epitaph, Motorway Patrol, and many other old Greenstone TV series/films/documentaries made for TV One, TV2, and TV3.

2nd Logo (2000-2007)

Visuals: On a black background, there's a green fire that reveals an oval which contains the words "GREENSTONE PICTURES" with "GREENSTONE" on the top half colored black and "PICTURES" on the bottom half colored green, changing from CGI-animation to 2D and turning around to the viewer. The background later turns into a green linear one. A copyright information fades in to the reveal the year of the first airing of this company's interchangeable show/movie/documentary.

Variants:

  • Sometimes the copyright info is missing.
  • A later variant has a flash just zooming in to the viewer.
  • Sometimes, the logo scrolls up to make room for the text: "For more information about Greenstone Pictures (New Zealand)", then "Programmes, Stock Footage, Books and Videos and Gifts" slide in followed by "visit our website www.greenstonepictures.com" complete with the music being played again.

Technique: CGI

Audio: Flaming noise complete with maori men yelling and a drumbeat.

Availability: It can be seen by many New Zealand viewers on 2000-2007 produced Greenstone content such as Going, Going, Gone, Motorway Patrol, Mercury Lane, Secret Agent Men, The Amazing Extraordinary Friends, The Zoo and many others made by or seen on TV One, TV2, TV3 and Prime.

3rd Logo (2007-2012)

Visuals: On a black background, there is the word "greenstone" in a green lowercase font zooming out from the left and setting to the center. After, the stacked text "pictures" is wiped in below via a light effect and the previous oval with an enhanced 3D look, appears and shines a green light across the top right and bottom left sides until the top is fully black and the bottom is fully green. The copyright year for the show/movie in question wipes in underneath.

Technique: CGI

Audio: None or the ending theme of the program.

Availability: Seen on 2007-2012 produced Greenstone content such as in beTWEEN and Highway Patrol.

4th Logo (2012-)

Visuals: Against a white background, the letters "GS" (in white with green outlines) slide at a right angle toward the center of the screen as the black text "Greenstone" flips into place underneath them. The words "Ideas to Entertainment" fly in under the Greenstone text, then the CJZ Group byline (with CJZ as its logo) and copyright notice wipe in at the bottom.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: None of the ending theme of the program.

Availability: First seen on the 2012 season of Motorway Patrol as well as the former Cream produced shows after GS bought out Cream.
