Background

Hong Kong Film Services (香港电影公司) is a Hong Kong-based television advertisement production company, founded in 1961.

1st Logo (1982)

Nickname: "The Squares"

Logo: Five differently-colored squares move into shot from above and below and come to rest on a black background. After the final square stops moving, the screen flashes, turning background blue and all the squares white. The hanzi "香港电影公司" springsout from the bottomone by one, followed by the company's name in English, "HONG KONG FILM SERVICES", below them.

FX/SFX: The squares moving, the screen and squares changing color, the name appearing.

Music/Sounds: A triumphant fanfare with timpani drums, closed by some strings.

Availability: Rare. Seen on the 1982 animated film Old Master Q Water Tiger.

2nd Logo (1983)

Nickname: "The Squares II"

Logo: Five differently-colored squares emerge from the yellowish background, then pull back to come to a stop and form the company's logo. The hanzi "香港电影公司出品" springing out from the bottom one by one, followed by the English translation, "DISTRIBUTED BY HONG KONG FILM SERVICES", below them, wiping in from the top.

FX/SFX: The squares moving, the name appearing.

Music/Sounds: Same as the last logo.

Availability: Rare. Seen on the 1983 animated film Old Master Q & "San-T".
