Background

This is a vanity card started in 1981 by Jeff Margolis.

1st Logo (December 12, 1983)

Visuals: Superimposed in the end credits is the text "JMP" flipped vertically. Then the text "JEFF MARGOLIS PRODUCTIONS" slides in from the right side of the letters.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: The end theme of the special.

Availability: Seen on Perry Como's Christmas in New York.

2nd Logo (December 15, 1984)

Visuals: Superimposed in the screen, there are the letters "J", "M" and "P" sliding in. The text "EFF", "ARGOLIS" and "RODUCTIONS" wipes in from the right side of the letters. The copyright notice is shown below the logo.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: The end theme of the special.

Availability: Seen on Perry Como's Christmas in England.

3rd Logo (1988-1990)

Visuals: Over a black background, the logo starts with red and white lines. Two red theater-like objects slide in from the right and left, and then the text "JEFF", "MARGOLIS" and "PRODUCTIONS" flash in from the side of the objects.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, a copyright date is shown below the logo.
  • Sometimes, the logo is shortened.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: An ascending synth, followed by three synth notes that echoes with a choir and a drumbeat. Sometimes, the end theme plays over.

Availability: Seen on Julie and Carol: Together Again and An Evening with Bette, Cher, Goldie, Meryl, Olivia, Lily and Robin.

4th Logo (1991-1995)

Visuals: On a black background, there are six thick triangles resembling the big triangle as the golden colored with metallic outlined "J" with two triangles zooms out and places behind the triangle. The red upside down triangle drops down between two golden triangles making the letter "M" as the words fade in "JEFF MARGOLIS PRODUCTIONS".

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: A synth pin followed by a synth drone combined with synth brass.

Availability: Seen on the short lived TV series Oscar's Greatest Moments. Might appear on other shows as well.

5th Logo (September 16, 1995-1996)

Visuals: On a gray marble background, with searchlights moving, the screen zooms out to reveal triangle like shapes that resemble a "M" with metal letters "J" and "P" that zooms out closer to the triangle shapes. The text "JEFF MARGOLIS PRODUCTIONS" spreads in below the logo.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: The end theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on several specials, like the 1996 Miss America pageant.

6th Logo (1996-1998)

Visuals: On a night sky is the 3D gold letters "JMP" zooms out and spreads in the center, as a star shines above the letter. Then the golden text "JEFF MARGOLIS PRODUCTIONS" fades in below the logo. There is a blue sky with black mountains down below the logo.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The end theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on several specials, like the 1997 and 1998 Miss America pageants.

7th Logo (1998-January 18, 2014)


Visuals: Over a black background, the logo starts with the "J" and "P" with the square with the "M" inside between two letters with "JEFF MARGOLIS PRODUCTIONS" underneath. The pipes extends as they and the logo tilt.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None or the closing theme of the show. CBS, ABC and NBC airings used a generic theme.

Availability: Seen on TV shows and specials from him such as the 1999 and 2000 Miss America pageants, the 2003 version of Fame and the 13th-20th Screen Actor Guild award ceremonies. Might appear on other shows as well.
