Background

Jim Henson Video was formed on December 19, 1991, when Jim Henson Productions and Buena Vista Home Video signed a worldwide home video distribution deal. The partnership ended in 1996, and Jim Henson Productions went on to to sign a new deal with Columbia TriStar Home Video and form Jim Henson Home Entertainment.

Logo (1992-1996)

Visuals: On a blue background, the green "JIM HENSON" signature writes itself. Below it, the word "VIDEO", in spaced out letters and with a red line above it, fades in underneath.

Variants:

  • The original North American variant has "VIDEO" spaced out more, and the red line reaches to the "J".
  • A still variant of this logo exists, which features the white words "DISTRIBUTED BY BUENA VISTA HOME VIDEO" appearing at the bottom of the screen. This appears on early 1993 VHS release usually after the "Available on Jim Henson Records" bumper. In the UK, this variant is spotted on the Muppet Babies VHS releases as they were taken from the U.S. prints of the VHS releases.
    • On several demo VHS releases, the byline is scaled larger than usual, thus having the logo positioned higher than usual like the British bumpers.
  • On the coming soon version of the Muppet Sing-Alongs: Billy Bunny's Animal Songs trailer, the white text "Coming This Summer" appears below the still logo.
  • A variant also exists, where the logo animates like normal but off-center, and "NOW AVAILABLE" also fades in below.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: A slowed-down variant of the 1991 Walt Disney Home Video theme.

Audio Variant: On VHS releases of Muppet Babies, the end theme to the show itself is used.

Availability: It appears at the end of early Jim Henson Video VHS and Laserdisc releases by Buena Vista Home Video from the time-period until 1996.

  • Apart from the promos featured, this doesn't appear at the beginning, as the Jim Henson Productions logo is used instead.
  • It also appears on the promotional video for Jim Henson Video on the demo VHS release of The Muppet Movie.
  • It also appears on UK VHS releases such as the 1994 UK VHS release of It's the Muppets!: Meet the Muppets!, among others.
  • The U.S. VHS releases of The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island don't have this logo. It also doesn't appear on Muppet Treasure Island, which uses the Jim Henson Productions logo at the end instead.

Bumper (1992-1996)

Visuals: On the same background as the Jim Henson Video logo, there is the following bumper texts in the Optima Italic font:

  • Coming Soon on Videocassette
  • Now Available on Videocassette
  • Feature Presentation

Technique: A still, computerized graphic.

Audio:

  • Both "...on Videocassette" bumpers: None.
  • Feature Presentation: The last few notes of Howard Pfeifer's "All for Just One Thin Dime" as heard on the "Comic Sans Prototype" Feature Program bumper, with Beau Weaver saying, "And now, our feature presentation."

Audio Variant: On the 1992 demo VHS release of The Muppet Movie, the Jim Henson Video music is heard over the "Feature Presentation" bumper. No announcer is heard.

Availability: Slightly common. Can be found on VHS releases of The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Classic Theater, and the 1996 VHS issue of Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas. VHS copies of The Muppet Movie and The Great Muppet Caper that don't have the aforementioned Feature Program ID have this, too, as well as the variants.

Bumper (1992-1996)

Visuals: As the Jim Henson Video logo of the era animates, "NOW AVAILABLE FROMALSO AVAILABLE FROM" fades in above it in green.

Variants:

  • A variant has "ALSO AVAILABLE FROM" fading in above the logo instead.
  • Sometimes the logo is a little more towards the top of the screen, and as "VIDEO" fades in, "NOW AVAILABLE" or "ALSO AVAILABLE" fade in below the logo.
  • On certain VHS tapes, the 1992 Jim Henson Video logo animates as normal, but fades out earlier.

Technique: 2D animation and a fading effect.

Audio: A male announcer says the onscreen text.

Audio Variant:

  • The orange text variants just have the regular logo music playing instead.
  • On certain VHS tapes, an unknown male announcer says "Coming soon from Jim Henson Video."
  • On the 1994 Australian and New Zealand VHS releases of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Brian Cummings says "Coming soon, from Jim Henson Video."
Availability: Supposedly can be found on UK and Irish VHS releases from the era, though the "ALSO AVAILABLE FROM" green text variant has been spotted on the 1993 UK and Irish retail VHS releases of The Muppet Christmas Carol.
