Juicy Juice

Background

Juicy Juice is a brand of juice that targets children and is sold in the United States using the slogan "100% Juice." It was introduced in 1977 by Libby's, then a subsidiary of Nestlé. It was known as Libby's Juicy Juice until March 2006, at which point it was marketed under Nestlé. The Juicy Juice brand and business was sold in 2014 to Harvest Hill Beverage Company, a portfolio company of Brynwood Partners.

1st Bumper (October 7, 1996-September 22, 2000)

Visuals: On a color-changing background, the letters in the word "Juice" walk in from the right side of the screen. From the left, the letters in "Juicy" walk in as well. Then "Juicy" jumps onto "Juice" as the background turns lime green. The "J" in "Juicy" whistles to something off-screen. What appears to be a cherry hops in from the left and onto the "i" in "Juicy", dotting it. The text disappears in a flash, and it becomes the Libby's Juicy Juice logo of the era, with a red banner reading "100% Juice for 100% Kids!" (in yellow) below it. The background then changes color for a few more times, then stops at the final note of the music.

Variant: An early version exists; here, the banner unfolds below the logo and flashes at the end, leaving a glow, and the Libby's logo pops up behind the Juicy Juice logo.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: A playful-sounding tune with a male announcer saying "This program is made possible by a grant from Libby's Juicy Juice." Sounds that match up with the actions shown are also heard. Near the end, the announcer says "Juicy Juice: 100% juice for 100% kids." Composed in C major.

Audio Variants:

  • On the early version, at the beginning, the announcer says "This program is made possible by a grant from Juicy Juice."
  • In some cases, a female voiceover says "And by..." before the male announcer says "Libby's Juicy Juice."

Availability: It appeared on 1996-2000 airings of Arthur on PBS Kids. It doesn't appear on TV anymore, but it's preserved on the show's VHS and DVD releases by Random House Home Video and Sony Wonder from the period.

2nd Bumper (September 25, 2000-September 21, 2001)

Visuals: On a white background, the camera pans down as several fruits form a border and an outline of the then-current Juicy Juice logo. The fruits then form an outline of the Arthur logo, then form "100%" before they deform it. The fruits reform the Juicy Juice logo outline; the outline fades to the actual logo, which zooms out. The Libby's logo is on the top left of the Juicy Juice logo, and a black banner with "100% JUICE" is below. The fruits shake throughout the bumper.

Technique: Stop-motion.

Audio: A jolly calypso/salsa theme, with a male announcer saying, "Juicy Juice, we're behind Arthur 100%. Of course, that's how we do everything. Juicy Juice, 100% juice."

Availability: It appeared on 2000-2001 airings of Arthur on PBS Kids. Like before, it doesn't show up on TV anymore but it can be seen on the show's DVD and VHS releases from Sony Wonder.

3rd Bumper (September 24, 2001-November 30, 2004)

Visuals: It starts off the same way as the previous bumper, but the border is deformed when the Arthur logo is formed. After the fruits deform the "100%", the bumper crossfades to the beginning of the bumper, at which point the Juicy Juice logo outline fades to the actual logo, which zooms out in the same fashion as the previous bumper. The background is also jungle green or lavender, the fruits are different, and the logo is smaller.

Technique: Stop-motion.

Audio: The audio from the previous bumper.

Availability: It appeared on 2001-2004 airings of Arthur on PBS Kids. Once again, it doesn't show up on TV anymore but it can be seen on the show's DVD and VHS releases from Sony Wonder.
