Background

KT Freetel Co., Ltd. (Korea Telecom Freetel, Korean: 주식회사케이티프리텔), mostly known as KTF, was a South Korean telecommunications firm, specializing in cellular services. KTF commercialized the world first nationwide HSDPA service with the brand of SHOW on 1 March 2007. On 1 June 2009, KTF was merged with Korea Telecom.

1st Logo (2004-2008)

Visuals: Over a white background, an orange circle with streaked borders is shown. Inside it is the white text "Have a good time!", and the KTF logo, consisting of "KTF", below on the right. A green progress bar is shown below the logo.

Variants:

  • On some devices, like the SPH-S1100, the progress bar is green with a border.
  • On devices like the KTF-X8000, the progress bar disappears with the logo left intact, and the audio from the next logo plays.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen when booting up any KTF-branded phone from the period, including several Samsung and LG models, and KTF's own KT Tech line of phones. It usually precedes the startups described below.

2nd Logo (2004-2006)

Visuals:

  • Startup: Starts with a flower field with multiple sunflowers and grass. The camera pans up and zooms out further as a white iris grows in from the borders, as the flower field changes into orange with the "Have a good time!" and KTF logo then fading in from the formed circle inside.
  • Shutdown: Another shot of the sunflower field is shown with a blue cloudy sky above. The flowers are seen growing in as the streaked circle with the KTF logo fades in front of the sky at the right.

Variants: The framerate and speed might vary depending on the device.

Technique: CGI-animated sequence stored in the phone's ROM.

Audio:

  • Startup: A melodic electronic theme, followed by a high-pitched child's voice saying "Have a good time!" after the last note.
  • Shutdown: A different arrangement of the electronic theme, this time with the voice saying "KTF!".

Availability: Seen on most KTF phones from the period, including KTF's own KT Tech models (like the KTF-X5200), and Samsung and LG models sold by the carrier (Samsung's SPH-S1100 as an example).

3rd Logo (2006-2007)

Visuals:

  • Startup: Over a multicolored, moving bubble background superimposed in white, a blue/red gift box zooms in. It spins out into a circular flower field, which then flips out into the KTF logo, spinning as streaks move around, with the slogan "Have a good time!" above in dark blue. The logo then settles into place as the bubble background fades out.
  • Shutdown: Over a black background, multiple multicolored circular lights move around as the KTF logo with the slogan is revealed zooming out. The logo is shown in multiple colors before fading into its standard ones, then to white, as the lights move out leaving the black background.

Variants: On lower-spec devices, the animation is sped-up with a choppy framerate, sometimes without sound.

Technique: Computer animated sequence stored in the phone's ROM.

Audio:

  • Startup: A soothing guitar theme with synths, followed by the "Have a good time!" voice from before.
  • Shutdown: A swirling synthesizer, followed by the "KTF!" voice from before.

Audio Variant: On the LG-KH1200 model, the jingle from the 1st T-Mobile logo plays.

Availability: Seen on most KTF phones from the period before the introduction of the KTF Show service branding. It is seen on Samsung and LG models sold by the carrier, including the LG-KW9200.
