Kijkwijzer

Background

Kijkwijzer is a Dutch-based rating system founded by the Nederlands Instituut voor de Classificatie van Audiovisuele Media (NICAM).

1st Bumper (2001-)

Visuals: Over a teal background is the lime green word "KIJKWIJZER", with the "IJ"s altered so the "I"s are smaller and are resting in the "J"s. In between "KIJK" and "WIJZER", is a creature with a black body and a huge eye as its head. A red chair slides in from the left and the creature sits on it. As the background changes to a black background with a teal spotlight and a teal border surrounding it, the word "KIJKWIJZER" fades out, and a green TV tube shape appears on the left of the screen. A black circle with the rating info on it pops up as the creature looks at it. Then everything fades out, leaving just the rating text, which then fades out.

Certification Symbols:

AL/TOUS: all ages
6: not recommended for children under 6
MG6: not recommended for children under 6 and must be accompanied by an adult.
9: not recommended for children under 9
12: not suitable for people under 12
16: not suitable for people under 16

Variants:

Sometimes, especially in the logo's early years, the green text "www.kijkwijzer.nl" is seen below the logo.
A still version was used on some UMD Video for PSP releases like Lords of Dogtown.
On early Blu-ray releases from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, the same still variant is used, only with a heavy cartoon filter being used.
Belgian French-language releases lack the URL and feature additional text below saying "Ce film vidéo convient à tous les âges" for AL releases, or "Ce film vidéo convient aux spectateurs âgés de (6/9/12/16) ans ou plus".
On later French-language releases, the logo is absent except the creature.
On widescreen DVD releases from Sony such as The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, the bumper is pillarboxed with the same coloured background.

Technique: Flash animation.

Audio:

2001-2007: a 70s groovy Shaft-esque tune was used.
2003-2009: a hip-hop beat with some goofy sound effects (including the droning laser sound when the chair slides in) was used.
2009-: a short modern disco/pop-esque tune.

Audio Variant: On Blu-ray releases, the music is in low tone.

Availability: Can be seen on many DVDs that contain the Dutch language. This is seen on Paramount Home Entertainment DVD/Blu-ray releases if you usually select "Français Benelux" or "Netherlands/Dutch" in the language selection menu at the start. Also appeared on several Bridge Entertainment Group DVDs, some Entertainment One DVDs and Blu-rays and a few Dutch FilmWorks releases.

2nd Bumper (2000s)

Visuals: Over a lime green background is the same logo, with the text now white on top and the rating and descriptor symbols below it, and along with it is a web address for "www.kijkwijzer.nl".

6: not recommended for children under 6
MG6: not recommended for children under 6 and must be accompanied by an adult.
9: not recommended for children under 9
12: not suitable for people under 12
16: not suitable for people under 16

Descriptor Symbols:

Geweld (Violence): A fist with an punch effect on it.
Angst (Fear): A spider.
Seks (Sex): Two feet under and another two feet upside down in between.
Grof taalgebruik (Foul language): A person yelling with marks coming out of his mouth
Discriminatie (Discrimination): Four people with another person inside.
Roken, alcohol en drugs (Smoking, alcohol and drugs): A syringe.

Technique: A still digital graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: So far, this only appeared on the Dutch DVD release of The Magic Roundabout (2005) and could possibly appear on other DVD releases from A-film as well.
