Background

La Société des Films Sirius was a French film production and distribution company active between the 1930s and 1970s, prominently successful during the second World War. It was at one point one of the four leading production companies in France along with Filmsonor, Gaumont, and Pathé in 1959.

Animated Logos

1st Logo (January 21, 1942-July 28, 1943)

Visuals: Fading in, there is the Arc de Triomphe letting out a white aura with a white star on top, both against a space background. The said white star quickly expands until it fills the entire screen, resulting in a white background, until it wipes away in the form of two clouds moving away in both directions, revealing a stretched "SOCIETE" on the left and a stretched "SIRIUS" on the right, both composed of several white, five-pointed stars. This is followed by a thinly stretched "FILMS" fading below the Arc de Triomphe. The camera finally zooms in on the Arch where "PRESENTE" wipes below the arc. The entire logo is displayed within a white border.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: The film's opening theme.

Availability: It is known to have appeared on Cartacalha, reine des gitans, Huit hommes dans un château, and Les Roquevillard. It later made a reappearance in Casimir in 1950.

2nd Logo (February 6, 1946-March 20, 1959)

Visuals: Over a scrolling starfield background, a white cursive "La" fades in the middle of the screen, and is followed by the following elements wiping in the middle on both ends: a biconcaved "SOCIETE SIRIUS" in a third-dimensional body with the Arc de Triomphe in between the two words and a white star that briefly flashes on top of the Arch. As soon as it stops wiping in, a warped "FILMS" wipes in from top to bottom below the Arc. It all then fades out, as a cursive "presente" wipes in the middle of the screen. Lastly, a stacked "UNE PRODUCTION" wipes on the top-left corner of the screen, and a cursive "Lucien Masson" fades in the middle of the screen as "presente" fades out.

Variants:

  • Starting with Non coupable, the part with "Lucien Masson" is excluded.
  • Starting with L'inspecteur aime la bagarre, the logo appears to be still and a cursive "presente" fades in below the logo.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: The film's opening theme.

Availability: Appeared in various French films either produced or distributed by the company during late 1940s and the 50s.

  • The normal version was known to appear in 120, rue de la Gare, Le fugitive, and Les aventures de Casanova.
  • The version with the last part excluded had a longer timespan than the "Lucien Masson" version, marking its debut in Non coupable and stopped appearing after Une fille sur la route. It also made its appearances in films such as Les condamnés and Bal Cupidon, although silent.
  • The still version was only known to appear in L'inspecteur aime la bagarre and La tête contre les murs.
