Background

Lucernafilm was a film company from Czechoslovakia, which lasted between 1912 and 1949. The Havel family played a significant role in it, especially its founder and long-time director Miloš Havel. It was revived sometime in the 90s as a film distributor.

1st Logo (1938)

Visuals: The text "LUCERNA-FILM, PRAHA uvádi", separated by rows, with the first word arched under the other, and the last two remaining words in a small size abruptly zoom in on a dark scenery, which lightens up to reveal a spinning gray ray background, with a gray lantern on the center. Shortly, the remaining words zoom away and disappear.

Technique: Practical effects.

Audio: The opening theme.

Availability: Unknown.

2nd Logo (1940)

Visuals: The sequence starts on a spinning black-dark gray ray background with a fuzzy black circle from the center, and a gray lantern. Moments later, the text "LUCERNA-FILM" in it's separated rows aligned to the right and on a wavy shape fade in.

Technique: Practical effects.

Audio: The opening theme.

Availability: Unknown.

3rd Logo (August 28, 1941-1942)

Visuals:

  • Opening: The sequence starts spinning gray ray background with a bright fuzzy circle shape from the center, with the lantern, now in a black color and in a more realistically-drawn look. "LUCERNAFILM" is shown in place in front of the latter, with "presents", both in German and Czech underneath.
  • Closing: On the same sequence but more shifted downwards, "presents" in the same translations are omitted, as "DAS WAR EIN" (with the latter word underneath the two words) and "TO BYL" are in place above.

Technique: Practical effects.

Audio: None or the opening/closing theme of the film.

Availability: Seen on films from the period such as Hotel Modrá hvězda (The Blue Star Hotel) and Okouzlená (Enchanted).

4th Logo (April 11, 1994)

Visuals: On a zooming starfield with beams shooting forwards from the distance, a navy-colored lantern (some sort of a Ramadan lantern) with the inners lightened with yellow spins and zooms from the distance and settles above, casting out rays thrice. The starfield then lightens up to an azure radial gradient background, with the lantern crossfading to a simplified look, the letters for "LUCERNAFILM" typing in with the simplified lantern symbol taking place in the third letter, and "uvádí" appearing below.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: A sudden synth whoosh with an ascending 6-note trumpet fanfare, ending with it's held out note.

Availability: So far appears on V erbu lvice. It also appears on Czech dubs of foreign movies.
