Background
MCA/Universal Merchandising, Inc. was the former licensing division of Universal Pictures, back when they were owned by MCA. In 1996, MCA was renamed to "Universal Studios, Inc."; shortly afterwards, MCA/Universal Merchandising became Universal Studios Consumer Products Group (later Universal Brand Development, and now Universal Products & Experiences).
1st Logo (1994-1998)
Visuals: Inside a black rectangle, there are the words "MCA\UNIVERSAL", with "MCA" and "UNIVERSAL" in their respective corporate fonts. Under it is the text "MERCHANDISING INC", with "MERCHANDISING" in spaced-out letters and "INC" turned sideways inside the cut-out rectangle shape.
Variants:
- On SeaQuest DSV, the logo is on a blue background along with the Amblin Television print logo underneath.
- On The Land Before Time Math Adventure, the word "and" is under the logo. Also, the logo has a white outline.
Technique: A still, sprite-based graphic.
Audio: None.
Availability: Appears on SeaQuest DSV for Sega Genesis, Super NES, and Game Boy. It also appears on The Land Before Time Math Adventure and The Land Before Time Activity Center for PC and Mac.
2nd Logo (1996, 2000)
Visuals: Similar to the 1990 MCA/Universal Home Video logo, except "UNIVERSAL" is in the normal size like in the movie logo, "MCA" is gold and is shifted up slightly a little, and "HOME VIDEO" is replaced with "MERCHANDISING INC." with lines above and below it respectively. All the words are in a gold color.
Technique: A still, sprite-based graphic.
Audio: None or the opening theme of the game.
Availability: Seen on Casper for PlayStation, 3DO, and Sega Saturn. It also appeared on the 2000 Game Boy Color version of the game, despite the fact that MCA was reincorporated into "Universal Studios, Inc." in 1996.
