Background

Millar Gough Ink is a production company by Miles Millar and Alfred Gough.

1st Logo (October 12, 1999-November 10, 2011)

Logo: In an office setting, at the forefront, we see a bottle filled with orange red ink in it labeled with the company name in an Impact font colored in a gold-white gradient. After one of the music variants are heard, a hammer (which, if you look very closely, can be seen in the reflection on the bottle) swings down and breaks the bottle, causing the ink in it to spread everywhere, covering up the whole screen.

Variants:

  • There exists an open-matte version of the logo, which can be seen on the short-lived series The Strip and some 4:3 prints of Smallville.
  • A less cropped version of the logo exists, which is also seen on 2003 DVD releases, Channel 4 and E4 British airings of season 1 of Smallville. Also seen on ITV2 UK airings of the entire 1st season of the said show.

FX/SFX: All live-action.

Music/Sounds:

  • 1999-2000: After the closing theme of the said show plays, there is a splattering sound.
  • 2001-2002: Just the sound of a bottle breaking.
  • February 2002-May 2002: An 3-note odd, short piano tune with an eerie sound effect is played in the background before the shatter sound.
  • 2002-2011: A reverberating cartoon ditty prior to the shatter sound.

Music/Sounds Variants:

  • A silent variant exists. In this one, the bottle breaking sound is absent. It is seen on episodes "X-Ray" and "Hug" of the 1st season of the said show.
  • On some early episodes of the 2nd season of Smallville such as "Vortex", the reverberating cartoon ditty is somewhat slightly quieter before the bottle breaking sound appears.
  • Most original airings of Smallville (e.g. The CW) use a generic theme and a voice over.
  • On the Smallville season 5 episode "Arrival", the bottle breaking sound is in sync with the last note of the music.

Availability: Common. First seen on the short series The Strip. Also later seen on Smallville and the 2011 Charlie's Angels revival. It also made an appearance on the 2006 TV pilot of Aquaman.

2nd Logo (November 15, 2015-)

Logo: On a black background, we see the stacked dark red words "MILLAR GOUGH" in a Helvetica Neue font. To the right of it is a dark red beaker with a black water-drop in it, and inside the drop, we see the dark red word "INK".

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: None or the ending theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on Into the Badlands and The Shannara Chronicles.
