Background

Newport is a cinema chain and former production company founded in the 80's by the Chan family. They started to run their own theater buisness in the 60's and through that, Newport was started in 1988. In the early 90's, Newport acquired the circut ran by Golden Princess, who was struggling by this point due to the decline in the Hong Kong film industry. The G.P. cinemas were renamed to Empire Cinemas. The Empire and Newport circuts merged to be just Newport. They are still around, albeit in a lesser shape, as they shut down their bigger cinemas, leaving only their smaller ones bearing the name.[1] Some of their films include The Swordsman trilogy.

Empire Theatrical Circuit

(19??-1988)

Logo: In space, we see 4 stars flying onto the screen, moving closer together while turning. An unknown object then turns them into diamonds and a circle, as the object zooms out to reveal itself as a specialized E. The diamonds and circle stay on the left side of the E. It zooms to the left, as lazer-like text flies to the right of it, saying the rest of the name in yellow, alongside its Chinese version (Empire Theatrical Circut). Green Chinese text fades in, and afterward, the whole logo shines.

FX/SFX: The text setting in, the shining, and the animated space background.

Music: A dramatic drum fanfare with wooshes, ending with 2 calming synth notes when the logo shines.

Availability: Unknown. So far, this has only been seen as a poor quality camrip to an unknown film.

Edtior's Note: Overall, a pretty good effort.

Newport Theatrical Circuit

(1988-1990)

Logo: On a blue space background, we see a red sphere merge into a red squircle with a split red-orange N. It goes around the line, as the squircle moves to the left. Text then flies in with similar coloring to the N, saying NEWPORT. Afterward, the name, "Newport Theatrical Circut", flies to the middle-right with Chinese text above. Similar green text to last time also fades in, and the logo shines multiple times.

FX/SFX: The NEWPORT text trailing, the ball going to the N, and the shining.

Music: A loud and dramatic syth fanfare with occasional wooshing.

Availability: Unknown.

Editor's Note: None.

Newport Distribution

(1990-????)

Logo: On a blue background, a sphere zooms out to reveal a red rounded rectangle with an "N" in it. It flashes, and becomes part of the "N". The logo zooms out to the top. "NEWPORT" zooms out with a blue residue trail, which zooms out after the text does, causing it to flash. The Chinese text and "NEWPORT DISTRIBUTION" zoom out from the bottom, placing it to the bottom of the logo. The text shines, and more Chinese text fades in below.

FX/SFX: Cool-looking animation. However, the Chinese text at the end looks cheaply chyroned in.

Music/Sounds: A warbly and warping synth tune.

Availability: Uncommon. Appeared on films during the 90's including The Swordsman Trilogy.

Editor's Note: Same as 1st logo.

Newport Entertainment

(2015)

Logo: On a black bacground, we see a red squicle outline itself as two light to the left and right illuminate the screen. Afterward, they dissapear as the squircle becomes visible and the N forms. NEWPORT then sizes up in the squircle. A reflection on the floor of the logo shines, before dimming and being replaced with a distibution notice.

FX/SFX: The squircle outlining, the shiny floor, and the logo forming.

Music/Sounds: A hip-hop esque beat.

Availability: Seen on Imprisoned: Survival Guide for Rich and Prodigal.

Editor's Note: None.
