Background

Nippon Lever was the 2nd name used by Unilever Japan until 2005, changing it from Honen Level in 1977. The company was founded in 1964 as Unilever formed a partnership with food company Honen Corporation to distribute their products there. In 2005, the company was renamed to its current name in order to strengthen Unilever's presence worldwide.

1st Logo (1977-1994)

Visuals: At the end shot of the commercial, a logo consisting of a striped "N" with the left leg extending and turning into a "L" shape, forming "NL". To the left of the logo is the text "日本リーバ" in a serif font. The logo is usually seen off to the corner.

Variants:

  • The placement of the logo depends on the commercial.
  • Sometimes, the logo would flip into place.
  • The logo may be in white.

Technique: A still, computerized graphic.

Audio: The ending theme of the commercial.

2nd Logo (1994-2005)

Visuals: On a white background, a tri-striped blue and white ribbon is seen raveling itself across the screen, as a long strand of it wipes in the text "NIPPON LEVER", along with the tagline "YOUR BEST PARTNER". The ribbon then folds and bends itself into a shape similar to the conjoined "NL" monogram from before, although redesigned to be more dynamic in looks, and it shines a bit. The ribbon then morphs into the print logo, with the folds fading into proper bends in the letters.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A soothing 4-note string tune, with a woman saying "Nippon Lever!" in a soft tone in tune to the music.
