Background

People's Sports Audiovisual Publishing House (Chinese: 人民体育音像出版社, formerly known as 人民体育出版社) is a Beijing-based media publishing company dedicated to distributing sports, martial arts and fitness related materials.

1st Logo (Early 1990s)

Visuals: On a black background, the blue Chinese text "人民体育出版社", in form of an arc with a white shadow, zooms in. "The people's publishing house of sports" wipes in below the text. An Earth globe appears spinning between the text, and the Chinese text shines.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: A triumphant horn fanfare.

Availability: Seen on early releases by the company.

2nd Logo (Early-Late 1990s)

Visuals: On a black background, a blue frame (akin to the THX "Broadway" logo) fades in. The yellow 3D letters of "SPORTS" zoom out from the sides into position inside the frame. A rotating CD disc appears rotating above the text, and a red underline appears below it. Then the Chinese letters appear quickly below "SPORTS".

Variant: Another variant has a red rectangle border with "SPORTS音像" zoom in instead of the disc. The underline is in bright yellow and the Chinese text underneath is in a different font. The frame then fades out when the logo is complete.

Technique: A mix of 2D computer animation and CGI.

Audio: Whooshing and "thud" sounds, followed by a loud, rising synthesizer drone.

Availability: Often follows most of the company's other logos in many video releases.

3rd Logo (Mid 1990s)

Visuals: Over a blue/black gradient background, the red Chinese text "人民体育" flips out into the left side. Then the yellow text "The people's publishing house of sports" rotates in from the top to in-between the Chinese text in a vertical line. More smaller Chinese text "出版社" slides in next to the other text. Transparent yellow bars slide in from the sides, in front of the Chinese text, and the blue spread-out "sports" fades in front of them. The screen then shatters away.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The fanfare from the 1991 Hatract Films Limited logo, which could probably be stock music.

Availability: Unknown. [Examples?]

4th Logo (Mid-Late 1990s)

Visuals: Over a blue background, a red circle with three straight "V" curved lines is seen. The yellow text "人民体育出版社" zooms out below.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: A MIDI theme.

Availability: Unknown. [Examples?]

5th Logo (Mid-Late 1990s)

Visuals: Over a black background, a red rounded rectangle with a yellow border flips in. It contains the text "SPORTS" with a yellow line underneath, having the circle logo from before below it. Next to it is the Chinese characters "音像". The Chinese names of the company then fade in below the logo, with a red line in-between.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: A gentle MIDI guitar theme.

Availability: Seen following the previous logo in its releases.

6th Logo (Late 1990s)

Visuals: Over a blue water-like background, portions of the Chinese text "人民体育音像" with a yellow outline form. A red bar with the word "SPORTS", having a shadow, with small black Chinese text next to it slides in below the screen. The red "出版社" with a white outline then zooms in the center.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: The beginning of "Leichte Kavallerie: Ouverture" composed by Franz von Suppé.

Availability: Unknown. [Examples?]

7th Logo (Early 2000s)

Visuals: Starts with a shot of the Earth and a satellite moving away. It changes into the sun passing by another Earth globe. This changes into a blue, dense background with a light flare at the center and flowers shown below. A square reveals shrinking in and imagery of gymnastic performances is displayed in front of it, while the background changes into a digital light background. Multiple repeated lines of numerical digits are shown in front of the screen sliding, while the square is shown flipping. The screen changes into a shot of a camera lens, quickly followed by footage of broadcasting centers with a blue letterbox seen. The footage then changes to that of multiple Chinese athletes in quick succession, changing into a panning shot of a blue technological city. It changes to a shot of the China map, with the landmass red and the surrounding areas in golden. A light bursts at the top border of it between Mongolia. The golden text "人民体育音像出版社" emerges from dust and the map quickly zooms away into a globe with multiple lights passing around it.

Technique: A mixture of CGI, computer animation, and stock live-action footage.

Audio: An upbeat orchestral fanfare.
