United Plankton Pictures, Inc. is a former vanity card of Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of
SpongeBob SquarePants. Its name comes from Sheldon J.
Plankton, one of the characters from said series. In 1998, Hillenburg formed United Plankton Pictures Inc., a television and film production company, but never used an actual logo until the first
SpongeBob episode, "Help Wanted". Hillenburg died on November 26, 2018, at the age of 57, due to a case of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS); however, the company remains active.
