Background

Powell-Peralta is an American skateboard company founded by George Powell and Stacy Peralta in 1978.

Logo (October 28, 1987)

Visuals: The sequence starts on a blue background. Suddenly, eight skeletal fingers tear through the background, forming the shape of a V, and rip it wide open like paper to reveal a skeleton with red eyes and black sclera as the red text "POWELL PERALTA", with the Powell Peralta logo (a red multilayered P rotated 45 degrees) in-between the letters, fades in below. The skeleton then lets out a creepy laugh, smiles at us and twiddles his fingers twice.

Trivia: The skeleton in the logo is called "The Ripper" and is the mascot of Powell-Peralta.

Technique: Traditional animation.

Audio: Low-pitched droning is heard throughout the logo. The sound of paper being ripped is heard when the skeleton punctures the background with his fingers and rips it wide open, followed by his creepy laughing. A string chord is heard at the end of the logo.

Availability: Seen at the beginning and end of the 1987 skateboarding film, The Search for Animal Chin.

Legacy: This is notable for being the first known on-screen logo ever uploaded to YouTube, as being first uploaded by syphic on October 21, 2005.
