Background

Pure Flix was founded in 2005 by actor David A.R. White and producer Russell Wolfe to create explicitly faith-based films. Originally formed as Pure Flix Entertainment, they released their product straight-to-DVD and gradually expanded to theatrical distribution and international sales later on. In 2015, the company bought the VOD platform I Am Flix and rebranded it as their eponymous streaming service. The next year, home media distribution of their films was transferred to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment via a multi-year deal. Their overall success led to the creation of two subsidiaries, Quality Flix and Pinnacle Peak Pictures.

In 2020, Pure Flix's streaming service was acquired by Sony Pictures Entertainment and integrated it into their Affirm Films banner. The deal also included the name "Pure Flix" and its relating trademarks. As a result, Pure Flix Entertainment was rebranded to the Pinnacle Peak name, which was made official in January 2021. Despite this, the film studio's output continued to be branded as Pure Flix Originals when released on the service.

In May 2023, Pure Flix was merged into Great American Media and the service was renamed as Great American Pure Flix that September. Sony remains involved with the venture.

1st Logo (October 6, 2006-2013)

Visuals: Zooming out from a white panel, the words "PURE" (in blue) and "FLIX" (in gray) rotate as they position themselves between a thin gray line. Several white panels illuminate light as this happens until the background turns black. The logo shines while "ENTERTAINMENT" wipes underneath.

Variants:

  • A YouTube promo has the logo superimposed on footage from Christmas with a Capital C.
  • Some films have a shortened version with the logo already formed and shining.
  • The logo is usually sped up on trailers.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A loud "WOOSH" when the letters fly followed by a "THUD" once they get into place. An ominous fanfare and a light sounder play underneath.

Audio Variants:

  • Sometimes, only the "WOOSH" can be heard.
  • In other cases, the opening theme of the movie plays over the logo with no sound effects.

Availability: Can be seen on DVD/Digital releases of early films from the company, such as Hidden Secrets, The Wager, What If...?, Christmas with a Capital C, Jeruselum Countdown, and This is Our Time. Recent prints have this plastered with the Pinnacle Peak Pictures logo.

2nd Logo (March 21, 2014-March 29, 2019)

Visuals: There is a watery reflection of the clouds. The camera rotates upward to reveal a night sky with clouds and a big 3D text reading "PURE FLIX" zooming in. Then, a shining trail of stars comes from the top of the night sky and flies below, while a big flash removes the clouds to make the logo shine.

Variant: On Mom's Night Out, the logo is still.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A piano theme that culminates into a majestic fanfare.

Availability:

  • Seen on various films by the company until 2019, like God's Not Dead and its sequels, Do You Believe, I'm Not Ashamed, and Indivisible. Current prints of these films have the logo plastered by the Pinnacle Peak logo.
  • Also seen on Mom's Night Out, Unbroken: Path to Redemption, and Some Kind of Different as Me.
  • Initial prints of Old Fashioned had this logo but it has since been removed on recent releases.
  • May have been seen on theatrical prints of Unplanned. All media prints go straight to the movie.

3rd Logo (August 1, 2022-2023)

Visuals: The camera pans down from a sunset sky with yellow clouds to an ocean where a flare can be seen. The words "PURE FLIX" in bright blue rise out of the water and settle just above the horizon as it releases drops back to the sea. The camera does a 90° turn as this happens until the sun sets halfway on the sea. "ORIGINAL SERIES" (for TV series) or "ORIGINAL MOVIE" (for movies), in white, fades in underneath.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A swelling fanfare followed by a low note fade-out.

Availability: Can be seen on An Unlikely Angel, Nothing is Impossible, and Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters.
