Background

Two anti-piracy screens were captured from Rediffusion Cablevision’s Cabletext service for Durham, in the mid- to late-1980s.

1st Warning (late-1980s)

Visuals: Using a teletext system, there is a yellow "Rediffusion Cablevision" header, entirely uppercase, with two lines between in. Underneath is the following piracy warning, with the telephone number in yellow:

       UNAUTHORISED RECEPTION OF
        CABLEVISION IS ILLEGAL

If you are watching this channel and
you are not a Rediffusion Cablevision
subscriber, then you are contravening
Section 53 of the Cable and
Broadcasting Act,1984 and are therefore
liable to prosecution.

We are continually carrying out checks
for illegal connection to our networks.

In a recent prosecution a fine was
imposed by a Magistrates Court. The
maximum fine for this offence is £2000.
