Background

Romart, Inc. was a production company owned by Dan Rowan and Dick Martin which produced Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In from 1967 to 1973 and the short-lived 1969 game show Letters to Laugh-In. The logo was preceded by the George Schlatter-Ed Friendly Productions logo from 1967 to 1972. When Schlatter and Friendly left the show, Rowan and Martin produced the entire final season (1972-73) by themselves.

1st Logo (September 9, 1967-April 29, 1968)

Visuals: On a red background, the same as in the Schlatter-Friendly Productions logo, it's a simple text credit that reads "in association with ROMART, INC.". It quickly cuts to the 1965 NBC Snake logo with the chimes.

Technique: A still printed image.

Audio: The end applause of Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, accompanied by a single clap (from George Schlatter) as the applause fades out.

Availability: Can be seen on first season episodes of Laugh-In, available on two episodes on The Best of Laugh-In on DVD.

  • However, it was replaced with the second logo in the 1983 half-hour syndicated rerun package.

2nd Logo (September 16, 1968-March 20, 1972)

Visuals: On a red background, there are the words "IN ASSOCIATION WITH", then a door opens to reveal the words "ROmaRT", with "INC." inside a small white square on a blue background. It quickly cuts to the 1965 NBC Snake logo with the chimes, or the Lorimar Distribution logo in the 1983 half-hour edits, or the 1986 Lorimar-Telepictures logo on the 1980's Nick-at-Nite reruns. Current reruns now follow this logo with the SFM Entertainment logo.

Technique: Traditional cel animation.

Audio: A creaking door sound, followed by a cowbell as INC. appears. The single clap (from George Schlatter) accompanies the action.

Availability: Can be seen on second through fifth season episodes of Laugh-In, available on two episodes on The Best of Laugh-In on DVD.

  • It was also seen on the short-lived 1969 game show Letters to Laugh-In, but only a couple of those episodes survive due to NBC's policy of wiping videotapes for economic reasons.
  • This logo also replaced the first Romart logo on the first season episodes when aired as part of the half-hour syndication version distributed by Lorimar in 1983. The rights reverted back to Schlatter/Friendly and Romart in the 1990s, and the series is now distributed by SFM Entertainment.
  • It was also seen on TV Land airings of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, which is then followed by the 1986 Lorimar-Telepictures "Crashing Comets" logo.

3rd Logo (September 11, 1972-March 12, 1973)

Visuals: A credit reading "A PRODUCTION OF Romart INC" with "Romart" designed into a stylized 1970s look, and "INC" blending into the logo on a blue background.

Variants: The text would appear in white or light green.

Technique: A still printed image.

Audio: The end applause of Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, followed by what sounds like a dull laugh.

Availability: Seen on the final season of Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In.

  • This logo has also been retained when aired on Decades Network.
