S.S. Productions

Background

S.S. Productions Limited (shortening of Shabana Sadique Productions Limited) is a Bengali film production and distribution company founded and owned by Shabana on late 1970's, with the first film being Matir Ghar from 1979. Its best known for making the 1990 award-winning film Goriber Bou. S.S. Productions went dormant sometime on the mid-2000's due to Shabana retiring from the film industry in 1998 and went to the United States to focus on her family members. Its latest film is Swami Chintai from 2004, presented by Shabana and produced in association with the Indian Voice and Vision Enterprises.

1st Logo (April 27, 1979)

Logo: On a black background, we see an S. Then we see another S. Then they collide. An line appears on icon. Then the words "S.S. PRODUCTIONS" appears on the bottom.

FX/SFX: 2D animation.

Music/Sounds: An male announcer speaking in Bengali.

Availability: Only seen on Matir Ghar.

2nd Logo (1983)

Nicknames: "S.S. of Doom", "The Darkness S.S.", "S.S. from Hell"

Logo: On a gray background, we see an S moving to the left. Then the S clones appear and collide. We see an heart like thing on the icon. Then we see the words "S.S. PRODUCTIONS". We see an border before the logo cuts off.

FX/SFX: The collusion and the border.

Music/Sounds: A series of loud noises and a loud rumble, followed by a rock gutter fanfare.

Availability: Only seen on Nazma.

Editor's Note: The loud audio and darkness may get to a dozen of people.

3rd Logo (July 13(?), 1986-November 15, 2004)

Nicknames: "The In-Credit S.S."

Logo: Just the in-credit Bengali text "Produced & Released by S.S. Productions Ltd." on a superimposed backgorund.

Variants:

Sometimes the print logo is added to the logo.
Goriber Bou: On a dark blue background, we see the yellow circle (representing a spotlight or the Moon) with the words "Shabana presents" in Bengali. Then it cuts to a Bengali words "A S.S. Productions Ltd. production & release" in the same thing. Some prints had the background in black.
During the opening credits of Meyerao Manush (the last logo to use the 4th logo), the logo is in 3D.
Swami Chintai: Beside a red, curved filmstrip, we see the words "SHABANA PRESENTS" in a serif font, on the bottom-tight corner. At the upper-left corner is the Bengali translation. Both appear via a drop effect. When it transitions into the same thing via leaf-like effect, but the yellow words "MADE BY S.S.PRODUCTIONS Ltd. (BANGLADESH) & VOICE AND VISION ENTERPRISES (INDIA)" are used instead. "MADE BY" is in a Comic Sans font while the rest is in a bolded font. Atop the English text is the translation in Bengali in blue, separated by a red line.

FX/SFX: None, unless you count a film effect.

Music/Sounds: The opening theme of the film.

Availability: Can be seen on many S.S. Productions' films during that period.

4th Logo (Early 1990's-1998)

Nicknames: "The Heart of Shabana", "The Disco Logo", "Flashing S.S.", "Disco S.S."

Logo: On a black background, we see the icon from before with four lights shining at the viewer. It cuts off to a white background. A rectangle rotates to the top. The second rectangle does the same thing. Then a black background takes over the white background. We then see a heart-like thing and gets big as it turns to a upside-down heart. It beats five times and becomes small. We then see the first S. Another S appears. They move to the heart and the first S flashes. It goes up. Black squares appear rapidly. Then the black background is removed. Then the words "S.S. PRODUCTIONS LTD." appear in red. A light highlights the text. Then the bold words "PRESENT'S" appear in black in a typewriter effect.

Variants:

A restored version exists on DVD and Blu-ray prints of the S.S. Productions films.
An short verison exists on Ondho Bishwas.
Varying on a film detorioration, the logo might be color-tinted.
On Meyerao Manush, the logo is slightly zoomed-in.

FX/SFX: Traditional cel animation that mostly looks good, but the shine effect is rather cheap.

Music/Sounds: Warbling synthesizer noises followed by an 70s-esque disco beat, then a synth horn theme plays.

Availability: Rare. Seen on some S.S. Productions' films from that time.

Editor's Note: For the 90s, this is very dated with the primitive animation, disco music and the film quality which makes it feel more like a 70s logo. However, the concept is creative and the music is pretty catchy.
