S.S. Productions

Background

S.S. Productions Limited (shortening of Shabana Sadique Productions Limited) was a Bengali film production and distribution company founded and owned by Shabana on late 1970's, with the first film being Matir Ghar from 1979. Its best known for making the 1990 award-winning film Goriber Bou. S.S. Productions went dormant sometime on the mid-2000's due to Shabana retiring from the film industry in 1998 and went to the United States to focus on her family members. Its latest film is Swami Chintai from 2004, presented by Shabana and produced in association with the Indian Voice and Vision Enterprises.

1st Logo (Late 1970's-November 15, 2004)

Nicknames: "The In-Credit S.S."

Logo: Just the in-credit Bengali text "Produced & Distributed by S.S. Productions Ltd." or "A S.S. Productions Ltd. Production & Release" on a superimposed background.

Variants:

Sometimes the print logo is added to the logo.
Goriber Bou: On a dark blue background, we see a yellow circle (representing a spotlight or the Moon) with the words "Shabana presents" in Bengali. It then cuts to a set of Bengali words "A S.S. Productions Ltd. production & release" in the same thing. Some prints had the background in black.
During the opening credits of Meyerao Manush and Shopner Purush, we see an logo is in 3D. The logo spins and zooms out, and the Bengali words "Produced & Distributed by S.S. Productions (Pvt.) Ltd." fade in.
Swami Chintai: Beside a red, curved filmstrip, we see the words "SHABANA PRESENTS" in a serif font, on the bottom-tight corner. At the upper-left corner is the Bengali translation. Both appear via a drop effect. When it transitions into the same thing via leaf-like effect, but the yellow words "MADE BY S.S.PRODUCTIONS Ltd. (BANGLADESH) & VOICE AND VISION ENTERPRISES (INDIA)" are used instead. "MADE BY" is in a Comic Sans font while the rest is in a bolded font. Atop the English text is the translation in Bengali in blue, separated by a red line.

FX/SFX: None, unless you count a film effect. Meyerao Manush and Shopner Purush have CGI animation and the text appearing. Swami Chintai has the ripples and the leaves.

Music/Sounds: The opening theme of the film.

Availability: Can be seen on many of S.S. Productions' films.

2nd Logo (April 27, 1979)

Logo: On a black background, we see the letter S and another S colliding towards each other. A line appears on icon, then the words "S.S. PRODUCTIONS" appear on the bottom.

FX/SFX: 2D animation.

Music/Sounds: A male announcer speaking in Bengali.

Availability: Only seen on Matir Ghar: The Last Station.

Legacy: Pretty basic, but fair for a logo made in the late 1970s.

3rd Logo (1983)

Nicknames: "S.S. of Doom", "The Dark S.S.", "S.S. from Hell"

Logo: On a gray background, we see an S moving to the left. Then we cut to the two S's colliding towards to each other. A heart-like thing appears inside of the icon, then the words "S.S. PRODUCTIONS" abruptly appears below the symbol. A thick border slowly appears around the symbol and text before the logo cuts off.

FX/SFX: The collision, the elements appearing and the border zooming.

Music/Sounds: A series of loud noises and a loud rumble, followed by a guitar-like fanfare.

Availability: Only seen on Nazma.

Legacy: Rather generic and dated for 1983, the print logo is also different from the other logos. The loud audio can freak out a few as well.

4th Logo (Early 1990's-1998)

Nicknames: "The Heart of Shabana", "The Disco Logo", "Flashing S.S.", "Disco S.S."

Logo: On a black background, we see the icon from before with four lights shining at the viewer. It cuts to a white background, where A rectangle rotates 90 degrees to the top, and the second rectangle appears on the left does the same thing. Then a black background takes over the white background. We then see a heart-like thing and turns big as it turns to a upside-down heart, which beats five times and becomes small. We then see the first S, and another S appearing. They move to the heart and the first S flashes as tt goes up,. We then see several black squares appearing rapidly, then the black background is removed. Then, the words "S.S. PRODUCTIONS LTD." appear in red. A spark highlights the text, then the bold words "PRESENT'S" appear in black in a typewriter effect.

Variants:

A restored version exists on DVD and Blu-ray prints of the films.
A short verison exists on Ondho Bishwas.
Varying on its film detorioration, the logo may be color-tinted.
On Meyerao Manush, the logo is slightly zoomed-in.

FX/SFX: Mostly traditional cel animation, except for the shining effect, which just slides though the text.

Music/Sounds: Warbling synthesizer noises followed by an 70s-esque disco beat, then a synth horn theme at the end plays.

Availability: Rare. Seen on some S.S. Productions' films from that time.

Legacy: For the 90s, this is very dated with the awkward animation, disco music and the film quality which makes it feel more like a 70s logo. However, the concept is creative and the music is pretty catchy.
