Background

SCTV (Surya Citra Televisi) is Indonesian free-to-air station that started in Surabaya on 1990 as Surabaya Central Televisi. They would later move to Jakarta in 1994, expanding nationally. At that time their full name also changed to Surya Citra Televisi. It is owned by the Surya Citra Media group, who also owns the sister station Indosiar.

1st ID (1990-1992)

Visuals: Just the 1990-2005 SCTV logo (a curved blue line with a red semicircle on the bottom with "SCTV" above a silver line underneath) with a strange rippling blue background. It has been said that the video was just a final part of it.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Unknown, then aloud, heavy synthesized news-alike drums, along with several synth notes.

Availability: It appeared during SCTV airings in Surabaya (before the station moved to Jakarta).


2nd ID (1992-1994)

Visuals: An odd variation of the 1990-2005 SCTV logo (with the semicircle bigger) is placed over a rippling water background.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A 4-note chime followed by a quiet 3-note melody.



3rd ID (1994-1997)

Visuals: On a blue water background, there is a water ripple, briefly revealed a globe. Then, various pictures and clips of Indonesia appears, until,we see the ripple from the previous logo, this time with the correct version of the 1990-2005 SCTV logo (with the semicircle smaller) animates: The letters and the semicircle came from various directions, while the blue line wipes in.

Variants: The appearing objects may varies.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A 7-note synth that heard twice (the latter being high-toned) with a somewhat quiet, reversed synthesized piano, followed by some beats on the background.

Availability: It appeared on the first three years of SCTV in Jakarta. However, it can be found (on DVD quality) on the SCTV's official YouTube account.


4th ID (1997-January 30, 2005)

Visuals: Two CG disco balls (one silver, one blue) join (a la eclipse),followed by the full circle version of the SCTV semicircle. Then, the 1990 SCTV logo zooms out on an orange background."Ngetop!" on bold sketch font fades in after the logo zooms out to its position.

Variant: Before the real logo appears, it usually preceded by real-live action segments, such as:

  • Kids: There are some children running around the class, until the teacher hums. Children make paper crafts while laughing and cheering, while the teacher gaze upon the children, occasionally helping them and smiling. Ends with children and the teacher holding a huge 1990 SCTV logo paper craft they've made.
  • Sports: We see everything: a man bouncing basketball, basketball players dribbling basketball around, and finally, somebody made a goal and the audiences cheered. The 1990 SCTV logo is on the middle of the court.
  • News: There is an airplane, which suddenly cuts to a crowd in the airport, and the schedule of the airplanes, which the latter unexpectedly changed into the 1990 SCTV logo.
  • Documentaries: A man designed a pottery, which has the semicircle sun on it. Then, he finished it with the SCTV logo.
  • Business: There is a crowd in the office, which later, one of the office's computer has the logo (and the people surprised).
  • Culinary: A conditional fruit and plants farm, which the SCTV logo made by fruits and leaves seen on an empty field.
  • Entertainment (beginning in 2001): A mother turning on the TV then sitting with holding small pillow, followed by a kid playing car's steer around, and a father seeing football and yelling around. Finally, all the three comes and dancing around (the SCTV logo is the blue sofa with the red semicircle pillow).

Technique: CGI.

Audio: For the real logo, a fast-paced, somewhat lavish drumbeat fanfare that sounds like a redone and slightly rearranged version of the 1992 ID, accompanied by a male singing "SCTV, NGETOP!".

Audio Variant: Heard before the real logo:

  • Kids: Started with kids cheering, when they stop, a twinkling piano tune is heard.
  • Sports: The basketball's screech, and the sudden cheers from the audiences.
  • News: An airplane sound, followed by the crowd, then sudden-silence (but the flapping of the plane schedule) while the plane schedule changes into the logo.
  • Documentaries: A cool rock tune. An extended version of this was also heard.
  • Business: A quiet synth beat accompanied by people crowd. A synth choir is heard when the logo appeared on one of the computers.
  • Culinary: A tropic flute/tambour/choir tune.
  • Entertainment: Some sounds from various TV programs, then a 3-note synth-beat when all the people joins.

Availability: Despite its obscurity, all the variants can be found on SCTV's official YouTube account, all in DVD quality.


5th ID (2005-2009)

Visuals: There is a CG "sunshine" rises from the word "SCTV" in blue. The screen pans out to the entire logo, revealing the whole logo. And "SATU UNTUK SEMUA" appears below it respectively.

Variants: Like previous logo, it would be preceded by such montages, Unknown.

Technique: 2D computer animation by Playgroup Asia.

Audio: Unknown

Availability: See the 1997 logo.

6th ID (2010)


Visuals: After a series of montages depicting life in Indonesia, the 20th Anniversary logo reveals itself in a complex animation, with the text "Pesona Wajah Indonesia" and the SCTV logo appearing shortly after.

Technique: Live-action and CGI.
