Background

Sooty Films was a company owned by Matthew Corbett that held all intellectual property rights to the Sooty franchise that Matthew's dad, Harry Corbett, created in the 1950's.

In 1996, in order to prepare for his retirement from the franchise, Matthew sold the franchise over to the Global Rights Development Fund, who formed Sooty International Limited. The Sooty Films name remained as a subsidiary.

1st Logo (September 6, 1993-December 14, 1998)

Visuals: Transitioning from the end credits, in a room with a grey wood floor and a light blue fence along the wall, a yellow saw pops out of the floor and saws a circular hole into the ground, dropping down upon finishing. Out of the hole, an animated version of Sooty wearing red overalls pokes out of the hole and waves a magic wand above him 3 times in alternating directions, revealing the Sooty films logo above him with each wave of the wand, sparkles of stars coming off the tip with each wave, and then poses with his arms out. The screen then freezes and either cuts to black or to the Granada Television logo at the time. The logo design differs depending on the series.

  • Series 1-2 (1993-1994): Red text that reads "A SOOTY FILMS PRODUCTION" in a stacked form, with "PRODUCTION" wiping downwards, as well as "FOR GRANADA TELEVISION" located below. Everything is shown in an arched form.
  • Series 3-6 (1995-1998): The Sooty brand logo (the fluffy-looking text "Sooty" in yellow with a red outline, though the outline is black here) is shown with "F I L M S" to the bottom right of it. "FOR GRANADA TELEVISION" is also shown below.

Technique: Traditional animation by Cosgrove Hall Films. This is actually an edited version of the the intro sequence for Sooty & Co.

Audio: The end theme of the show, which is a instrumental version of the Sooty & Co. theme song.

Availability: Seen on Sooty & Co.

2nd Logo (September 27, 1999-December 11, 2000)

Visuals: On a bluish-grey stone background, the Sooty brand logo is seen in a tilted lavender oval, with Sooty himself (in his red overalls) waving at the camera. Below is the text "A SOOTY FILMS PRODUCTION FOR GRANADA TELEVISION" in a white ITC Serif Gothic font.

Variant: On the second season of Sooty Heights, the logo is within the Granada Media Children's logo.

Technique: A still graphic.

Audio: Same as before.

Availability: Seen on Sooty Heights.
