TVA Movie Presentation

From the Audiovisual Identity Database, the motion graphics museum

Background

Prior to 1994, the TVA network used different intros for airing movies. Starting in September of that year, however TVA was asked to use a single intro for all their movie presentation on the network. Starting in 2006, these intros are no longer used.

1st Logo (September 1994-August 1998)

Visuals: On a background resembling a red curtain is the TVA logo zooming out. Then the yellow sphere from the logo detaches from it leaving a claquette formed of the red rectangle and the blue square. The yellow sphere fades out, and the claquette pops open to show a camera lens with little purple squares around and a black person shadow walking. As the red background turns to purple, the shadow turns into a surfer and the squares grow to fit around a square resembling a screen. The screen zooms in a little bit, and either CINÉ-EXTRA, CINÉ-FAMILLE, CINÉ-MAXIMUM, CINÉ-LUNE or CINÉ WEEK-END (depending on the movie aired on the network) zoom out to complete the logo.

Variant: When a movie airing on TVA was presented by the NEON brand car from Chrysler, a variant was used. The logo is completing as usual but with a change: "CINÉMA" zooms out and the NEON car logo flashes underneath it.

Audio:

  • All intros except CINÉ-LUNE: a bombastic keyboard tune. Electric sounds added on the CINÉMA NEON variant.
  • CINÉ-LUNE: same theme as the first variant, but rearranged with flute and chromatic percussion.

Availability: Seen before and after every movie airing on TVA during that era. Check your home tapes.

2nd Logo (August 1998-October 2002)

Visuals: On the first part is the normal start of filming. The countdown starts after a voice says Moteur! During this countdown, there is Attention! Ça va rouler! Silence sur le plateau!. After that a claquette with the words Cinéma TVA claps while we hear a voice saying Action!. Then, an animation is played and depends on the movie presented. As it ends, there is COUPEZ!. The words CINÉ zooms out and takes position on a green background with filmstrips in it. To complete the logo, either the white Times New Roman words Extra, Famille, Dimanche, Lune appear under CINÉ.

Variant: When a movie is presented during CINÉMA EXTRÊME, the ending is different.

Audio: Voices saying Moteur, Attention! Ça va rouler! Silence sur le plateau!, Action! and COUPEZ!, followed by a 8-note electronic synthesiser tune.

Availability: Seen on TVA-presented movies of the era. Check your tapes.

3rd ID (October 2002-August 2006)

Visuals: On a brown background covered with filmstrips, there are the words Cinéma fading in letter-by-letter. When the last letter comes out, either Ciné-Extra, Ciné-Lune, Ciné-Dimanche (in white, depending on the movie presented) zooms down from the top of the screen.

Audio: A pop tune with ad libs.

Availability: No longer in use since August 2006.
