Tele Sahel

Background

Télé Sahel is the national broadcaster of Niger operated by ORTN, short for the Office of Radio and Television of Niger. Télé Sahel launched in 1964 as an educational television channel under the name Télé-Niger. On April 6, 1979, following the success of their broadcast of the 1978 FIFA World Cup, the channel was converted into a national television network adopting its current name and launching its color broadcasts the same day.

1st (known) ident (1982-2006)

Visuals: On a grayish-blue background is part of a trumpet. It then zooms out, revealing a man with a trumpet (more specifically, a kakaki) riding a horse on what appears to be a photograph of a desert with visible trees (possibly the Ténéré or another desert located within Niger if otherwise). A television outline (technically a rounded rectangle outline) draws in on the right of the horse. A large, stylized "O" forms in the television outline, with a shield symbol that resembles the one from the coat of arms of Niger appearing afterwards. The letters of "rtn" fade in separately in the "O". It then zooms to the television.

Technique: Camera controlled animation.

Audio: A loud trumpet noise. It then repeats on the zoom out, the forming of the television and O. More loud trumpet noises are made when the letters fade in.

2nd (known) ident (2017-)

Visuals: On a white background, there is a green outlined square pop up on the floor and briefly rotates 90 degrees, as two orange vertical lines nearly slide into it and a green vertical line slides through the outlined square. The words "INFORMER EDUQUER DISTRAIRE" slide from the right standing on the floor while two black outlined squares on top of each other with green and orange squares on the lower left and upper right corners respectively with the words "Télé Sahel" set in a green Impact font inside the two outlined squares pop up. The camera pans around the background while the two intersecting outlined squares rapidly rotate 90 degrees once at a time, while a symbol - a stylized shield with a portion of the coat of arms of Niger, the black portion of the stylized "O", the television outline - technically a rounded rectangle, and the remaining orange and green portions of the stylized "O", one by one, respectively. The letters "RTN", set in the Cooper Black typeface, zoom out from the top of the screen forming the ORTN logo. The camera in the background moves back to its original position and the background fades to white. The ORTN logo then zooms into a position where it would appear on top of the orange words "Télé Sahél" set in the Arial Black typeface, which fade in almost immediately after the logo would form.

Trivia: If you look closely at the top and bottom thirds of the screen, there are bars colored in a slightly darker shade of white, making it apparent that the stock background in this logo is 16:9, and when the ORTN logo is formed, the bars fade instantly to a pure white color when the background animation is finished.

Audio: A potentially stock corporate tune possibly from the early 2010s or the late 2000s.
