Background

Telediario is the flagship news broadcast of the Televisión Española (TVE) network. It airs at a daily basis on TVE's main network La 1, with simulcasts on 24 Horas, TVE Internacional and RTVE Play.

1st Intro (1957-1969)

Visuals: On a starry background, a model of the Earth is shown spinning slowly to the right, with the white text "TELEDIARIO" rotating horizontally around it from right to left.

Variant: There's an alternate variant where the font used for the text is different.

Technique: Model work, along with traditional animation.

Audio: A bombastic orchestral fanfare.

2nd Intro (1969-1970)

Visuals: On a white background, a disc facing upwards is shown rotating at a fast pace. It then slows down as it reveals the text "TELEDIARIO" in black spinning in front of it. The disc then morphs into a wireframe globe, as the text slows down.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: A marching fanfare.

3rd Intro (1972-1976)

Visuals: On a blue starry background, a rotating model of the Earth zooms in, while most of the stars appear zooming out. The white "telediario" then fades in at the bottom of the globe. At the bottom of the text, the flickering "1ra EDICION", "2da EDICION", or "3ra EDICION" appears scrolling in from the right.

Variants:

• Until 1974, the logo was originally in black and white.
• There are different versions of the animation.

Technique: Model work, along with traditional animation.

Audio: An organ entry which leads into an upbeat, bombastic brass fanfare.

4th Intro (1977-1979)

Visuals: The intro is set on footage of a studio, where a vinyl record player, a reel player, and multiple TV equipment are shown. In front of the background there is a TV-tube like square showing other portions of footage, and the red text "TD.1" appears forming near the bottom-right. The square with the footage then moves spinning around the screen to the bottom-left corner, and quickly cuts back to the center, as the intro begins to fade to the program.

Technique: Live-action mixed with Scanimate effects.

Audio: A funky guitar theme.

5th Intro (1979-1982)

Visuals:

• Primera Edición: On a black background, multiple yellow circular outlines appear trailing in from the diagonal corners into the center. The formed circle at the center then zooms in, while the background turns blue and stars appear around it, and the border turns into a golden-colored bevel, with the text "td" inside. Stars then quickly appear around the whole logo as the words for "primera edición" in white script are formed by other stars, one-by-one, in sync with the beat.
• Segunda Edición: On a black background, a green circle with multiple outlines is rotating vertically, with multiple shining stars appearing around it. The outlines then disappear, and another outline flips in at a much slower pace, containing the blue text "Td2" segmented in lines inside. The outline merges with the circle and the logo settles in. The stars disappear, and then two stars appear in sync with the beat, bringing the white words "SEGUNDA" and "EDICIÓN" below the logo.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: A chamber orchestra and synth theme.

6th Intro (1982-1983)

Visuals: It starts with a black, starry background with the Earth being shown near the left. Two sets of yellow lines appear wiping in from the left, with another set of lines coming out from the top. These curve and make a 4-pointed star shape, with a square outline fading in around the center. The star shape fades out, and a TV-tube like square outline fades in inside the square. The square flips horizontally and moves to the Earth, and then the trailing text "TELE 1" (1st edition), or "TELEDIARIO", zooms from it into the bottom-right. Once the trail disappears, the text shines in sync with the fanfare.

Variants:

• One of the variants used has the text reading "NOTICIAS", in red.
• Another variant has the text reading "REDACCION ABIERTA" in light red, used for a few special broadcasts.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: A futuristic-sounding orchestra and synth fanfare.

7th Intro (1983)

Visuals: The intro starts with a picture of a refinery, which changes to a zooming out, trailing shot of an oil platform. It then cuts to a video of a rocket, which freezes and changes to a cosmonaut. Next is a video of a space shuttle taking off, followed by a zooming and trailing shot of another astronaut. Then the screen cuts to an astronaut maintaining a satellite, followed by a video of another satellite. It then cuts to a trailing, zooming shot of multiple planets, including Jupiter, followed by a space shuttle orbiting the earth. The text "TELEDIARIO 1" then appears in blue below.

Technique: Camera-controlled animation, mixed with computer effects.

Audio: An orchestral fanfare.

8th Intro (1983-1985)

Visuals: The intro starts with a blue wireframe grid on a dark blue background and a yellow glowing object shown at the center. The camera then rotates down, revealing that the object is the transmission tower of TVE's news facility, the Torrespaña, which is glowing in a bright blue color. The camera also spins around the tower as it gets into perspective. Once it settles, a neon outline of the Madrid skyline appears quickly from the bottom and fits itself with the tower. The area below the outline then pixelates into footage of the same skyline, with the lights of the tower spinning. The camera zooms out as the skyline moves to the right, and there's also cars through the street. Near the tower, the segmented blue/white "T1", appears from the center of the tower and moves to the top-right as it rotates around, with a bright blue glow shown around it. The logo stays settled for a few seconds, before it flips around and settles again close to the center.

Variants: On Segunda Edición and Tercera Edición broadcasts, the shot of the skyline is set at night, and different versions of the logo according to the broadcast are used.

• The Segunda Edición variant has a green/yellow "T2"
• The Tercera Edición variant features a red/white "T3".

Technique: CGI, and Scanimation for the logos.

Audio: It starts with a synth bassline sequence with multiple drum machine percussion notes, with ascending synths being heard in the background. After a drumroll, an upbeat horn fanfare starts to play along with the initial synth, culminating with three ascending notes. At the end, a beat from the same drum machine is heard which continues to the headlines section.

9th Intro (1985-1987)

• 

Visuals: On a zooming black starfield background, a blue object is shown rotating in a still position near the center. The object then zooms in to the left as most of the stars begin shooting to the sides. A light blue spinning Earth globe then zooms in, and morphs into an oval shape. A white four-pointed star with a yellow trail then appears from near the upper-left side of the screen and rotates behind the globe. A yellow symbol, which is a combination of the letters "TD" into one, then begins to draw in front of the globe, with the horizontal line of the "T" in an arrow-like fashion. The text "TELEDIARIO then zooms in below the formed logo, with a light blue trail briefly seen behind it. After a while, the arrow part of the "TD" symbol spins out from view to the left, followed by the rest of the symbol which moves to the right. A growing light blue/white gradient circle then grows in from the center, which then rotates, zooms back, and reveals itself as the Torrespaña as featured in the previous intro, with the light blue part being the glow. A star then appears near the roof of the tower, before the formed logo gets still.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A bassline with a drum machine is heard at first, with shimmering synths appearing after. The drumming gets more intense as a cymbal hit is heard and a 6-note synth melody starts playing.

10th Intro (1987-1989)

• 

Visuals: On a blue background, multiple golden 3D triangles are flying above a light yellow corridor, and are shown merging into cubes. The cubes then move up as a rectangle containing a picture of a sunset view, with a blue vertical rounded rectangle behind it, is shown blocking the corridor. The camera pans and rotates up as the corridor is revealed to be set above a stronger blue-colored surface, and begins zooming to above the blocking item, which is revealed to be in the shape of a "D" with a shiny, glassy material at the upper part. Meanwhile the golden shapes appear to be forming a "T" with a cut right side, which moves close to the "D" shape, as it is being reflected, with the result reading "TD". The corridor and surface fades out, leaving the logo and the background with the "TELEDIARIO" text fading in below. After a while, the camera begins zooming to between the "TD" letters, as the headlines section begins to play in the background.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: An arpeggiating synth piano theme, which changes into a dramatic synth brass fanfare, with several drumbeats and piano/synth notes playing briefly after, finishing with a majestic note.

Visuals: On a blue background, a glass square zooms out and flips to the center while multiple lights and reflections appear through it. Once it starts to face the camera, the yellow "TD", with the T in form of an upside-down exclamation mark, fades in, with three stacked and slanted squares on each horizontal side. The 3D trails of the word "Telediario", segmented into two parts, one in standard yellow and another in a lighter shade, then appear zooming out to the square. The finished logo then faces to the camera for a while. The "Telediario" text then rotates out to the left, as the square flies out of the screen, revealing the introduction of the show with the logo being chroma-keyed in. The Telediario logo then zooms out to the bottom-left corner of the screen, while the edition number of the show, either "1", "2", or "3", slides in from the right with a set of three blue stripes next to it.

Audio: A slowly evolving synth orchestra fanfare.

12th Intro (1990-June 1991)

• 

Visuals: A flash from white brings up a blue surface, and the camera rotates up revealing a rounded studio-like environment set on a black background, with the surface rotating and multiple lines spinning. The blue TVE1 logo rises up from the surface as the camera slightly gets away outside the environment, before zooming back into it. The lines stop rotating as walls are formed, with a world map painted in the center, and multiple TV screens lined up at the right. The TVE1 logo settles in the left side of the walls, and the camera zooms back, as the environment is revealed to be bordered by a large "T" carved in a light blue wall. The camera zooms out from the T revealing the other letters of "TELEDIARIO" and a line below, which morph into bright silver. The camera rapidly zooms away as the text is shown near the top. The line appears to be curved in to the bottom at the right side, with another repeat of the same line below it, curved up.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Drum machine notes and a bassline at the beginning, with some synth brass notes afterwards, culminating in a triumphant finish.

13th Intro (June 1991-1994)

Visuals: On a panning light blue background with landmass-like forms engraved on it, the word "TELEDIARIO" appears scrolling in from right to left, with the letters revealed in order. Reflected on the text is faint footage of people walking. At the front, a white, transparent copy of the "TELEDIARIO" text moves in from the upper-right to the center. Once the "TELEDIARIO" text stops scrolling, a white blur of light passes through the text as it changes to the same material as the text from the beginning. The text slightly shines, before a blurred line appears and wipes out the text from left to right, and at the same time, a beige/steel blue line wipes in from right to left as the same "TELEDIARIO" text appears moving in at the right of it.

Variant: There exists a closing credits version of this intro.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A quiet synthesized beat, which evolves into a majestic 4-note fanfare.

Audio Variant: On the closing variant, an extended version of the quiet beat plays after the fanfare during the credits.

14th Intro (1994-1996)

Visuals: Superimposed on the studio where the program is filmed, multiple rectangular pieces of different colors, mostly in silver, appear zooming out rotating to the top of the screen and form the text "TELEDIARIO" segmented in five pieces. Meanwhile, blue lines appear from the sides and circle near the right of the screen, forming a rotating Earth globe. Below "TELEDIARIO", the letters of "PRIMERA EDICION", "SEGUNDA EDICION", or "TERCERA EDICION", in yellow, zoom in letter-by-letter. The text then zooms out to the upper-right as it morphs into lines that form the borders of the same text, while the Earth globe disassembles and the lines move away from the screen. At the left of the text, the date of the broadcast appears in yellow italics. The remaining visuals of the intro then continue as the headlines begin playing.

Variants:

• There exists an early variant where the bottom text is in shiny gray, the "TELEDIARIO" text not zooming out to the upper-right, and the globe being tinted in pink.
• On Avance (Preview) broadcasts, the intro is set on a dark blue/orange background with a world map shown in a gray gradient. The text and the globe are also desaturated in colors, making them look nearly monochrome. A shadow of the text is shown at the bottom of the screen. Often, on most of these broadcasts, the text would be changed to "AVANCE".

Audio: A re-arranged version of the theme from before.

Audio Variants:

• On earlier broadcasts, the original version of the music is heard.
• An alternate theme was used, which consisted of a dramatic synth guitar and drum machine theme.
