Background
UCV Televisión was a Chilean free-to-air television channel owned by the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso. It is notably the first TV network in the country, starting its experimental broadcasts on October 5, 1957, with its official broadcasts starting on August 27, 1959. Initially, it was exclusive to Valparaíso and Viña del Mar (the latter being the network's home city), broadcasting on channel 8, but on February 22, 1969, it moved to channel 4, and in 1971, the network's first repeater was installed in La Serena through channel 8, followed by a repeater in Santiago de Chile (the country's capital) through channel 5.
In December 2016, due to economic issues, UCV Televisión sold 90% of its channel to Media 23 SpA, known for distributing signals for Disney channels in Chile, whereas the remaining 10% was kept by the PUCV through its PUCV Multimedios SpA subsidiary. On November 21, 2018, the channel was replaced by TV+ and was therefore 100% privatized, although its third multiplex signal kept the UCV 3 branding, until July 2020, when it was rebranded to simply UCV Televisión.
