Background
Unexpected Development was a small game development company based in San Francisco, California that was founded in 1992 by Cary Hammer. It mostly handled games for Nintendo Game Boy and Sega Game Gear, as well as the console ports of BattleSport. In 1998, the company was closed.
1st Logo (1993-1995)
Logo: Against the white background, we see the square with the "u" inside it and the right part of "u" has the arrow pointing up. Under the logo are the words, "Unexpected Development".
Variants:
- Sometimes, the background is black and the logo is white.
- On Game Gear games, the words are stacked.
- On Phantom 2040 for Game Gear, the background is colored purple.
Technique: None.
Music/Sounds: None or the game's title theme.
Availability: Appears on it's games developed for Game Boy and Game Gear through the era. Such as Spider-Man and the X-Men: Arcade's Revenge and Shaq Fu for Game Boy, and Jungle Strike and Phantom 2040 for Game Gear for example.
2nd Logo (1997)
Logo: We start out at the outside area with birds flying by in the background. Then the logo (which this time is a "U" with "D" as it's shadow and the stacked words, "UNEXPECTED DEVELOPMENT" underneath), slowly fades in and zooms in while we slowly pan up. Then one of the birds flies in from the right and later gets knocked out by the logo and it stops zooming in. Then the background fades into white.
Technique: 3D animation.
Music/Sounds: TBA.
Availability: Only appears on BattleSport for PlayStation, Saturn and PC so far.
