Background

BBC News (also known as the BBC News Channel) is a British television news channel. It was launched as BBC News 24 on 9 November 1997 at 5:30 pm as part of the BBC's foray into digital domestic television channels, becoming the first competitor to Sky News, which had been running since 1989. For a time, looped news, sport, and weather bulletins were available to view via BBC Red Button.

  • Although most of the flags shown in the countdown are fictitious, the Flag of St. George, the Flag of St. Andrew, the Catalan flag, and the Pakistani flag is shown in the countdown.

Availability: Same as the previous.

Legacy: A favorite of many, this is a very popular and iconic countdown with its famous music, however, this logo has gained notoriety for its music and was often satirized and parodied in popular culture, perhaps most famously by comic Bill Bailey who likened the theme music to an "apocalyptic rave".
