1st Logo (March 1, 1952-1955)

Visuals: There is a stylized wreath upon which the following phrases are displayed: "NARTB Television Code Board", "Box 1711 Washington 4, D.C.", "Seal of Good Practice", and "Entertainment Information Education".

Technique: A still, printed image?

Audio: Either no music or the music that comes with the sign-on/sign-off sequence, plus an announcer who describes the TV station's subscription to the Television Code.

2nd Logo (1955-1958)

Visuals: There is a stylized TV tube (complete with frame) with olive branches to the left and right sides. The words "NARTB CODE BOARD" are positioned near the top of the tube, with "SEAL OF GOOD PRACTICE" below it. Both phrases are in a serif font.

Technique: A still, printed image.

Audio: Either no music or the music that comes with the sign-on/sign-off sequence, plus an announcer who describes the TV station's subscription to the Television Code.

3rd Logo (1958-1965)

Visuals: Same as before, but the large words "SEAL OF GOOD PRACTICE" are positioned on the center of the tube, with "NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS" above it. Below the "SEAL OF GOOD PRACTICE" text are the words "TELEVISION CODE".

Variants:

  • From 1958-1959, the initials "NAB" in huge letters were displayed behind everything else inside the TV tube.

4th Logo (1965-1990)

Visuals: Same as before, but the phrases "SEAL OF GOOD PRACTICE" and "TELEVISION CODE" swap their positions. The primary color scheme is a steel blue background, dark blue-filled TV tube, green branches, and white text.

Variants:

  • Some TV stations have the fullscreen logo display a year mark, where it is positioned near the bottom of the tube.
  • Multiple color schemes exist, depending on the TV station.
    • KTUL:
      • 1979: Black background, white-filled TV tube, white branches, black text, and year mark
    • KTVU:
      • 1980?, 1981?: Red/orange background, white-filled smaller TV tube with a huge drop shadow, white branches, black text, and year mark
    • WAGA-TV:
      • 1981: White background, no frame, brown branches, black text

5th Logo (November 1979-1984?)

Visuals: Against a beige background, there is a stylized TV tube (complete with frame) and black fill. The 1979 NAB logo (a stylized "nab" inside an outlined dome-like shape) is positioned on the top center of the TV tube in white with a black fill. The stacked words "TELEVISION CODE" are positioned at the center of the tube in a white, Bauhaus-like font. Below the phrase are the stacked words "“broadcasting in the public interest”", and below that phrase are the words "NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS".

Variants:

  • Some TV stations have the fullscreen logo display a year mark, where the first two and last two digits of the year are positioned to the left and the right of the NAB logo, respectively. In this case, the frame may have a double border.
  • Multiple color schemes exist, depending on the TV station.
    • KREM:
      • 1981: White background, dark blue-filled TV tube, and white text
    • KTVU:
      • 1980: Blue background, red-filled TV tube with white border, white text, green-filled NAB logo, and year mark
    • WCBS:
      • 1981: Dark blue background, blue TV tube border, sky blue dome outline in the NAB logo, white "nab" wordmark in the NAB logo, blue "TELEVISION CODE", bigger and white "NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS" below "TELEVISION CODE", and "Broadcasting in the public interest" below the tube in blue
    • WGN-TV:
      • 1981: White background, blue-filled TV tube, and white text
    • WDVM (now WUSA):
      • 1980: Green background, red-filled TV tube with white border, white text, green-filled NAB logo, and year mark
    • WJXT:
      • 1984: Beige background, cornflower blue-filled TV tube, beige text
    • WLS:
      • 1981: Black background, red-filled TV tube with white border, white text, gray-filled NAB logo, and year mark
      • 1982: Black background, blue-filled TV tube with white border, white text, red-filled NAB logo, and year mark (in a bold sans-serif font)
