Background

A-Vision Entertainment was a home video company owned by Warner Music Group, using the likeness of its Atlantic Records label. It released videos from Atlantic artists, but also functioned as a special interest/general video distributor as well. In 1994, it was reorganized into WarnerVision Entertainment, which went defunct in 2002, likely either being folded into Warner Home Video and/or being retired by WMG.

A-Vision Entertainment

1st Logo (1990-1994)

Nickname: "The Atlantic Fan Logo"

Logo: On a black background, a dot flies by, and we see a box rising up and expanding into a box with a border between "A VISION" and "E N T E R T A I N M E N T" in white. Between "A " and "VISION" is a white fan spinning. A white dot then applies to the fan, forming the Atlantic fan logo used at the time.

Variant: At the end of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers VHS tapes released by the company, a black screen reading "Distributed by" appears before the actual logo.

FX/SFX: The box expanding, the fan spinning.

Music/Sounds: A strange synth theme, then a "thunk" sound when the dot gets to the fan.

Availability: Seen on all Atlantic-Vision tapes.

Editor's Note: None.

2nd Logo (1990-1994)

Nickname: "Pink Floyd Light Show"

Logo: A white still logo from before fades in against a background of rapidly shifting colors and images relating to concerts and live performances.

FX/SFX: The background effects.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Seen on most if not all of Atlantic's live performance recordings, especially Phil Collins: No Ticket Required and Elton John: The World Tour 1992.

Editor's Note: None.

3rd Logo (1990)

Nickname: "A-Vision in 3 Dimensions"

Logo: The A-Vision logo appears in a 3D effect.

FX/SFX: None, only the fade-in and out.

Availability: Seen on Phil Collins: The Serious Tour 1990 in Berlin.

Editor's Note: None.

Warner Music Vision/WarnerVision International

(1991-2006)

Nicknames: "Spinning \\'", "The World Map of \\'", "\\' in Space"

Logo: We see a starfield with stars shooting forward. Then, two small stars shoot out from opposite sides of the screen and collide with each other, forming a white sphere with clouds of gas swirling around it that zooms up toward the screen. Some smaller white spheres also orbit around the larger one, and red 3D asteroids shoot toward us. When the sphere disappears, we see the Warner Bros. logo (in white) used from 1972-1984 ("The Big \\'"). The "W" has a stretched world map printed on its side, and it revolves around and zooms toward us. When it zooms close enough, it turns to face us and zooms out while the words:

WARNER
M U S I C
V I S I O N

zoom out from the bottom of the screen and arrange themselves below the "W". Simultaneously, the screen fades to blue (or black).

Variants:

  • For international distribution, "VISION INTERNATIONAL" would sometimes appear in place of "MUSIC VISION".
  • Prior to 1997, there was a short version, starting with the logo spinning, but horizontally. Then the animation continues as normal.
  • A still in-credit version was used for Oscar's Orchestra.
  • A unique variant exists on Australian tapes, where the logo already fades to the finished result, but with "WARNER VISION AUSTRALIA" under it.
  • On Malaysian videos, the text is smaller and now reads "WARNER MUSIC MALAYSIA". The Warner Bros logo has a shadow.

FX/SFX: The sphere, the revolving "W", and the text zooming-out. Very nice animation.

Music/Sounds: A new age tune with synths and percussion with a choir and a groovy 90's bass riff.

Music/Sounds Variant: The short version used a sci-fi sounding tune with synth horns.

Availability: Uncommon. Used on most WMG artists' live videotapes and music video collections, as well as some concerts with various artists, such as Live Aid: 20 Years Ago Today. The "Vision International'" variant can be found on some UK videos and DVDs. The "AUSTRALIA" version, can be spotted on a few Australian tapes.

Editor's Note: None.

WarnerVision Entertainment

(1994-2002)

Nicknames: "The New Big \\'", "WarnerVision \\'", "The Good & Plentys"

Logo: On a green background with many lines containing the word "WARNERVISION" in long-spaced out letters, some orange, white, and blue ellipses spin about. The white and blue ellipses fall inside the background, forming the familiar Warner "\\'" logo (the first \ is blue, the other two parts of the "W" are white) but without the circle surrounding it, and the last part flipped to form a "V", while the orange ellipses move away. As this happens, the letters "ER" in Century font appear and fade out rapidly, then the word "WARNERVISION", also in Century font, appears and fades out multiple times until the orange ellipses move away. The word "ENTERTAINMENT" (or "FILMS"), small and in Helvetica, fades in below.

Variants:

  • Some tapes, have the "WARNERVISION" text lines moving left and right.
  • At the beginning of The Granny and Gumby: The Movie, among possible others, a still, silent version was seen, in which we see the "\\'" surrounded by lines, and "WARNERVISION FILMS" is seen underneath it, in an odd font.

FX/SFX: Very impressive animation for 1994.

Music/Sounds: This logo has two main themes, used generally concurrently with each other:

  • Version 1 has a deep synth note held throughout and a twinkling sound at the start, followed by a cymbal crash.
  • Version 2 is a progressive theme opening with an ascending section of guitars, synths and drums, ending in an echoing riff.

Availability: Uncommon. It appears at the end of many children's videos released by their subsidiaries KidVision (later moved to Warner Home Video) and A-Vision, such as pre-2000s copies of The Magic School Bus, The Adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashley, and early seasons of Power Rangers (such as the Mighty Morphin series). Also seen on other miscellaneous videos. It can also be seen at the start of Kathy Smith: Functionally Fit - Peak Fat Burning, a BodyVision release, and at least one Magic School Bus tape.

Editor's Note: Not bad animation at all, including the usage of the modified Big \\' logo. For 1994, this logo has a quite modern design to it.
