North American Bumpers

1st Bumper (2000)

Note: The bumper takes place during a clip of Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island.

Visuals: The sequence starts with a black background, which waits for about a second. Suddenly there is a bright lightning flash, revealing what appears to be a tall and empty hall of a supposedly haunted castle, with some wooden doors closed in the distance. We start to fly with the camera fast towards the wooden doors only to be cut off by another bright lightning flash, revealing a closer look at the wooden doors. We slowly pan with the camera a little more towards the wooden doors, followed by us getting cut off by a third bright flash of lightning. The bright lightning flash reveals the wooden doors close to the camera, with two green hands of a scary monster tearing the wooden doors off. The camera soon switches to the monster's point of view. Within the green room from which the monster tore the wooden doors, the Mystery Incorporated (Inc. for short) gang is seen screaming and running off to the left and right of the screen. The order they do so and the direction they are running are in this list:

  • Fred, Velma, and Daphne. They run to the left.
  • Shaggy and Scooby-Doo. One runs to the left and the other runs to the right.

As soon as Shaggy and Scooby-Doo run off of the screen, the dust takes about a second to clear up, revealing the bumper (the Warner Home Video logo with the text "NOW AVAILABLE FROM" arched in gold above it) superimposed on the wall where the Mystery Incorporated gang was hiding. The monster's shadow is seen behind the bumper as we slowly pan towards it with the camera.

Technique: Traditional animation.

Audio: Typical horror music comprised of ominous horns, accompanied by the sounds of thunder as the lightning flashes, the doors being ripped apart, the howls and growls of the monster, the screams of all five Mystery Inc. members, and cartoon sound effects for when Shaggy and Scooby exit the scene.

Availability: Can be found only on 2000 VHS tapes of Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders.

2nd Bumper (1999/2000)

Visuals: The screen fades into a scene from the Merrie Melodies short Bedeviled Rabbit, in which we see the Tasmanian Devil (Taz for short) spinning onto the screen, in the middle of a forest. He then stops spinning and searches the area, looking for something to eat, and immediately takes notice of Bugs Bunny, who we see sitting on a rock reading a book. The camera then changes to Bugs' point of view looking at the pages. The Tasmanian Devil then turns a page of Bugs' book that reveals the bumper as a giant picture in the book that takes up an entire page. The bumper features the Warner Home Video logo superimposed on the standard cloudy sky background, with the text "NOW AVAILABLE FROM" in a stacked gold font with "NOW" on top, "AVAILABLE" in the middle, and "FROM" on the bottom above the Warner Home Video logo. The book is then suddenly eaten and chewed up by the Tasmanian Devil.

Technique: Traditional animation.

Audio: Just the audio of the short, which is accompanied by a triumphant fanfare when the Tasmanian Devil turns the page of Bugs' book, followed by biting sounds when the Tasmanian Devil is seen chewing on Bugs' book.

Availability: Can be found only on a VHS of Scooby-Doo in Arabian Nights.

International Bumpers

United Kingdom

1st Bumper (December 1991-Mid 1992)

Visuals: On a dark blue gradient background with a faded WB shield behind it, there is a coloured CGI WB shield in the top right, continuously rotating left. A 3D VHS cover for the film being advertised is seen on the left of the screen. The bumper then either fades to black, or to the opening shot of the trailer.

Technique: Only the CGI shield rotating.

Audio: The opening audio of the trailer.
