Background: Yle Fem was a Finland-Swedish television channel operated by Yle, the Finnish public TV broadcaster. Launched on 1988 as a programming block on both TV1 and TV2, Yle Fem was originally named Finlands Svenska Television, or simply FST, and the programming block aired Finnish programs in Swedish. With the arrival of digital terrestrial television, FST received its own channel slot on August 27, 2001, while the channel was named as YLE FST. Despite this, programming blocks were featured on YLE TV1 and YLE TV2 at the time up until August 2006, when all Swedish programs were then moved to the newly-renamed YLE FST5 channel, during the switch from analog to digital broadcasting. Between August 2001 and March 2012, the channel's main theme involved dice and its facet of five dots. When the company revamped its brand on March 2012, the channel was renamed as Yle Fem due the reason of the previous name being referred to as a combination of letters instead of a channel name by viewers. On October 25, 2016, it was confirmed that Yle Fem and Yle Teema will share the same channel slot and on April 24, 2017, the channel was revamped into Yle Teema & Fem.
1st Logo
(1988–1992)
FST (1988-1992)
Nicknames: "Steely FST", "Rainbow Steeliness"
Logo: A large sphere gets absorbed onto a grayish background. Both the shady background and the sphere itself then change their color to a bluish hue and we see many detailed lines appearing and moving to the center in front of the sphere for a better view, while forming a large, stylized "FST". A multicolored reflection is then seen scrolling down on the logo and creating a multicolored line below, where "FINLANDS SVENSKA TELEVISION" appears with letters scrolling up to the line.
FX/SFX: Standard CGI background and the sphere, the FST itself, the small letters scrolling up.
Music/Sounds: A futuristic decreasing sound, followed by a long "whoosh" sound and a calm synth tune.
Availability: Extinct on TV. It could be spotted as startup and closedown ident for the programming block.
Editor's Note: The decreasing synth sound and long "whoosh" may startle some people.
2nd logo (January 1,1993–August 27, 2001)
Finlands Svenska Television (1993-1999)
Nicknames: "Blocky FST", "The Psychedelic Tunnel of FST", "Acid Playground Tunnel", "Finland's Swedish Tunnel"
Logo: We are moving through the tunnel of different colored and shaped blocks surrounding the route with glimpses of a white background being able to seen from the angular gaps. The draw distance at the end of the tunnel remains black until when we reach close to it, when it becomes yellow. As we are getting out of the tunnel, the screen tilts to a straight position and we see different shaped blocks (colored from left to right: blue, orange, green, red and purple) forming "FST" with pair of blocks combined to form one letter in front of the yellow plate. We then see the following text below the finished logo, looking somewhat like the text below:
FST F..I..N..L..A..N..D..S S..V..E..N..S..K..A T..E..L..E..V..I..S..I..O..N
FX/SFX: The different colored blocks with shades on the tunnel, the primitively animated blocks forming "FST". Okay for its time, but a little dated for its later years heading into the new millenium.
Music/Sounds: A hypnotic, yet confusing tune featuring occasional sounds played in reverse. All of this is done with a synthesizer.
Availability: Extinct on TV. Much like the previous logo, it was used as both a startup and closedown ident for programming blocks aired on TV1 and TV2.
Editor's Note: None.
3rd logo (August 27, 2001–September 2005) FST (2001-2005)
Nicknames: "Dice", "Italic Dots", "Five Dot Dice", "Always Five Dots", "The Finnish Casino", "Journey Around the Finland (Live-action variants)"
Logo: On a complex green background with moving lines and multiple dots popping up and out, a white dice with five dots on all of its six sides, is thrown onto the center of the screen. The dice then starts rotating at one place. We then transition to the dice spinning far away from the camera, as we then fade to the simple white background with "FST" and the italic gray five dots logo on the right side and the small text "FINLANDS SVENSKA TELEVISION" below them.
Variants: There exists a live-action variant with dice flying across multiple locations. We see the dice flying across the stormy beach, then it is spinning right past the a driver's sight on a street during evening time and leaping behind a old boater during bright summer time. A middle-aged woman then catches the dice and throws to the beach where it keeps rotating away, as the screen fades to the white screen with same logo and text details. Another live-action variant plays closely the same as the previous one except right at the mid-point, we see the dice leaping behind an energetic old man and couple of people seen at the background during the winter time. The dice is then seen set on the car, as it crosses the wooden bridge and drives away on a ice road. FX/SFX: The complex background, CGI dice itself. Practical camera shots in the live-action variant.
Music/Sounds: A short and simple theme played with saxophone. Live-action variants had a different start for the tune and wind's humming at the end.
Availability: Extinct on TV. Both main and live-action variants could be spotted as on both programming block and its own channel.
Editor's Note:With the exception of live action variant, the silly saxophone theme described below does not fit all that well with the main CGI ident.
4th logo (September 2005–September 1, 2007)
FST (2006) Nicknames: "Italic Dots II"
Logo: On a plain white background, a large lime green dot appears and grows wide, while taking half of the screen space. As we see multiple large dots moving past the screen on a green background, four transparent dots combined with orange outlines, approaches towards to the center of the screen, while leaving multiple frames behind. Almost all of frames then disappear, leaving only one at the center of the row on the screen. This frame breaks down into four separate dots, while creating the fifth dot in the middle of them during the process. Four dots around the singular one starts spinning around it for short amount of time. Transparent dots then disappear as the green background fades out, while five large, cursive dots appear to the screen. The lime green color can be briefly seen moving past dots, while dots then become gray.
FX/SFX: Lime green background, transparent dots with orange outlines, cursive dots fading in.
Music/Sounds: Mellow tune played with different instruments such as trumpets and electric guitar.
Availability: Extinct on TV.

5th logo (September 1, 2007–May 5, 2011)
YLE FST5 (2007)YLE FST5 (2010)YLE FST5 (2007-2011)
Nicknames: "lYLEl FST5", "Dots on a Line"
Logo: On a moving live-action background with "lYLEl FST5" seen below the screen, we see a transparent, orange lateral line moving past the screen at high speed several times, as its acceleration increases so much that the line becomes clean on the right side with stylized "5" appearing to the left end of the line seen hanging on straight. Right next to it, we see five dots popping in with each one becoming less connected to the center dot from left to bottom right. The clean line becomes transparent again, as the entire logo widens and vanishes away.
Variants: Alternate variant has the cyan thick line appearing to the screen except it doesn't move past the screen multiple times and stops at one spot right from the start. There's also grayish background of a construction site, leaving after images as the screen keeps moving right. Unlike the main variant, the entire logo stays clean and doesn't vanish away. Another one has the solid yellow thick line on a yellowish background of a building seen from the bottom, while the camera is moving on left. FX/SFX: The transparent lateral line, dots popping up.
Music/Sounds: Boisterous and rhythmical tune played with electric guitar.
Availability: Extinct on TV. Could be spotted as a startup ident at the time. It's unclear if there are more variants to be found.

6th logo (May 5,2011–March 5, 2012)
YLE FST5 (2011)YLE FST5 (2011-2012)YLE FST5 (2011-2012)
Nicknames: "lYLEl FST5 II", "White and Lime Green"
Logo: On a white background with "lYLEl FST5" once again seen below the screen, we see either straight or upper view of clean water surface in motion. A lime green ball is then seen growing larger on the right corner, while few balls dissolves from the larger one while still connected on it, but we can only see one on the corner growing about the same size as regular one. Right after, the "FST5" appears on the lime green ball with animation of five dots then being formed. We see the four dots being connected to each other and the fifth one on the bottom right corner is separated from others.
Variants: There are numerous variants where the background is slightly different each time and the logo animation of lime green dot is forming either up or down. One variant also shows round ice cubes rising to the surface on the background. Despite this, the concept is relatively the same on all variants.
FX/SFX: The background, the logo itself with lime green dots.
Music/Sounds: Calm theme, that has four-note synth jingle playing repeatedly.
Availability: Extinct on TV. It could usually be spotted before the next program begins.

Nicknames: "yle FEM", "White and Lime Green II", "Black Stamp II"
Logo: With the relatively similar concept that the previous 4th logo had, we see the active water surface with water splashes seen in slow motion on a white background with transparent "yle" on the black stamp and "FEM" being written on its right side, being placed on the center of the screen.
Variants: On December 2012, regular water surface-based variants featuring an easter egg in form of stop-motion mouse could be spotted. The female mouse is seen hiding and then waving its hand. A different variant starts with quick fading in to the white background featuring the channel logo and six light bulbs: four of them placed on the roof and rest being set to the ground, while pointing straight up. A lime green dot then grows on on the left side of the straight light bulb, while another one is dissolving from it. The third of four light bulbs on the roof fades out and is replaced by another lime green dot. Another variant features spheres falling and bouncing around on a white background. The background then becomes fuzzier and we can see lime green dots appear popping on the screen, one seen alone below and another one having smaller dot dissolving from it. One variant features apple being thrown to the ground, while lime green dots are formed on the right bottom corner. The apple becomes blurrier to see as it keeps bouncing closer to the screen in slow motion. When Yle Fem is about to switch its transmission with SVT World to feature the Swedish channel's programs, an exclusive variant is used. We see the channel logo sliding in from top to the center of the white background featuring lime green dots on corners and upper view of the water surface, where a round shadow is seen dropping down to the surface and causing a large splash. We then see the channel logo rotating around obliquely, as it then transforms into the 2012-2017 logo of SVT World with lime green dots disappearing from the screen. FX/SFX: The active background of water surface or lime green dots.
Music/Sounds: Re-arranged version of the tune heard in the previous logo.
Music/Sound Variants: An alternate tune also exists, with the weird decreasing sound being heard and then slowly fading out. One variant featuring spheres has completely different music played with bassoon. Another version of the tune exists with male vocal humming the tune. Availability: No longer current since the channel's unification with Yle Teema into Yle Teema & Fem on April 24, 2017. See the previous logo.
