Audiovisual Identity Database:Requests for Comment/Let's try this again. Allow people to vote on images for pages

Restarting... Again.

I'm giving this RfC another shot, since no one even took a passing glance at the original (except Nuggie). Camenati said it can't have the same name, so I slightly changed it. So anyways, there's certain pages and/or pictures which have been selected to appear at the start of categories. These are companies that belong in that category, or as for pictures, logos that appear on those aforementioned companies. I think we should let the users vote on which P&Ps (Pages & Pictures) should appear on those categories. It would work like RfCs, FMNs, RfPs etc. Someone would insert the page or the picture they are nominating. Then, (for pictures only), add a description that will be placed underneath the pictures. Then, we would go through the whole Support, Abstain, Oppose thing. Users would have a month to vote. If it succeeds, It would appear at the start of the category, and it would stay there for a month. But if a nominated candidate passes while a previous candidate is still on, it would have to wait until the one before that was taken off. I think this would be good for users who want to visit more pages, and for others who want to promote pages they made. Sonicfan19198282 (talk) 18:23, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

Support

# Support but (as a suggestion from Hb1290 on the Discord server) as a new section of the main page rather than the portal pages, a la Wikipedia's "Today's Featured Article" section. · Talk · Edits 04:52, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

Abstain

Abstain As Featured Media Nominations exists for this reason. As for the Category Page thing, I think thats for portals only and not categories. I'm pretty sure Category is for grouping only, i think. Maybe it would work for portals (tho it might be randomized as of current), but until now, im in the middle of the fence. He is suggesting to have the articles appearing at the top of portal pages decided by a vote rather than the current random selection system. Talk · Edits 05:04, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
  •  Comment: The voting system idea is solid, though I think there's an even better way this could be implemented. See my proposal below for more details. Talk · Edits 05:00, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

Proposal 2: Implement the above voting system not for the portal pages, but in a dedicated section on the main page

The voting system proposed by @Sonicfan19198282: is definitely a solid idea, though I believe it might fit better in a section on the main page, like Wikipedia's "Today's Featured Article". We could set up a project page for such votes. Some may recall that I actually once experimented with a featured article on the main page, though it didn't really work as there was no system behind it. Sonicfan's voting system could be what we need to make this work properly this time. Talk · Edits 05:00, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

  1. Support but we need to fully flesh out a featured articles system first. Decide the criteria etc. Logoarto (talk) 05:44, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

  •  Comment: Goodie, yet another voting structure that needs to be maintained, appended by a project page when the project system has been such a shining light of success. Has avid not yet learned that adding more and more voting structures for unnecessary functions is not wise? The second idea falls into this but at least applies to a truly significant page while the first idea is particularly useless: an entire voting system for a category that is not intended to be reading pages. Just, pick an image, and if people disagree, then consider voting about it if necessary. --Raidarr (talk) 08:24, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
    • We've already been realizing that AVIDProjects has been a failure. A poll was created on the server to decide if we should put it out of its misery. · Talk · Edits 11:08, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
