Background

Channel 4 Video was a home video arm of Channel 4 that released the channel's programmes on home media, and also select third-party programmes as well. Initially, Channel 4 Video self-distributed their releases, but beginning in 1998, VCI took over. In June 2005, ChanneL 4 Video ended their partnership with VCI because of the BBC's ownership in the then new2 Entertain label.

1st Logo (1995-2000)

Visuals: It's the same as the "Round and Back" variant of the television logo, only "VIDEO" flashes in below once the animation is finished.

Technique: Same as the 1982 TV logo.

Audio: The same 1992 fanfare from the 1982 TV logo.

Availability: Seen on Channel 4 Video releases from the era, distributed by VCI such as The Lost Gardens of Heligan, among others.

  • Even though Channel 4's ident changed on October 11, 1996, this logo continued to be used afterwards until 2000.

2nd Logo (2000-2005)

Visuals: Just the 1999-2004 Channel 4 "Square" logo on a black background.

Variant:

  • Later releases from 2003-2005 have the word "video" in a white box below the Channel 4 Square plus the logo fades in and out.
  • On Bo Selecta! DVDs, the logo transitions to the DVD menu, which depends on the DVD release.

Technique: None. [possible misuse]

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on Channel 4 VHS and DVD releases from the era, distributed by VCI.

  • Examples include releases of Angela Anaconda, Ali-G, Graham Norton, and television movies/specials such as Raymond Briggs' The Bear, Merlin, and Gulliver's Travels, among others.
