Background
Continental Video was founded in 1984 by father and son duo Jack and Jim Silverman. Some of their titles had been previously issued by Planet Video. It was later acquired by Cinema Group in 1985 and renamed to Cinema Group Home Video after Andre Blay and Elliott Kastner took control of the studio.
1st Logo (1984-1986?)
Visuals: On a grey background, a segmented globe of the Earth made of grey diagonal lines, the continents thicker and made of white lines. Over the globe, the text "Continental" in an arched script font with a white outline, fades in, while "VIDEO" fades in below arched alone the edge of the Earth.
Variants:
- A still version exists with a dark blue background.
- A later version exists where the logo is on a box on a purple background, and a Cinema Group byline is below the logo. The logo then zooms into the center of the screen.
Technique: Fading effects.
Audio: None.
Availability: Found on tapes such as Terror on Tape and The Kidnapping of the President.
2nd Logo (1986?-1987)
Visuals: On a black background, the Cinema Group logo fades in piece-by-piece: first the inner piece in red, then the middle piece in green, and then the outer piece in blue. Below it, the text "CONTINENTAL VIDEO" fades in below, along with a italicized Cinema Group byline.
Variant: A still version exists.
Technique: Fading effects.
Audio: A four-note synth tune with drum beats, with the last note holding after the words fade in.
Availability: Found on Deadly Alliance, Deadtime Stories, Something Special, Miami Vendetta, and Witchboard, among others. The still variant can be found on the VCL Video release of Love at First Sight (1977).
