Background

DD Video was a PAL VHS and later a DVD distributor. The company was renamed to Simply Home Entertainment in 2006.

1st Logo (1988-2000)

Visuals: On a blue marble background, a silver parallelogram with embossed letters "DD" flies in from the left of the screen. Once it stops in the middle, the letters color in via a fading drawing effect, flashing when they have finished. "PRESENTS" appears in italics when the logo is completed.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: A harsh descending droning sound that holds for a few seconds, with some high pitched warbles at the end. The music is actually "Star Flight" by Paddy Kingsland.

Availability: Seen on their VHS and early DVD releases. [Examples?]

2nd Logo (2000-2004)

Visuals: On a white background, a red parallelogram flies in very quickly from the left, in a similar way to the last logo, with a shadow appearing on the bottom. However this time, the words "DD" appear from both sides, crossing each other and then stopping. The url "ddvideo.co.uk" fades in at the bottom in red.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: VHS and DVD releases containing this logo carry the last logo's packaging. It's easier to find on DVD releases more than VHS releases. [Examples?]

3rd Logo (2004-2006)

Visuals: Against a white background, a translucent magenta trapezoid fades in and turns to the side, and a blue trapezoid on the same angle fades in and moves slightly to the right, stopping in the middle. Both contain the letter "D" to make up the company's name. "HOME ENTERTAINMENT" fades in and zooms out slightly to the middle of the logo, and the URL "www.ddhe.co.uk" fades in on the bottom. The logo then fades away.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: An ambient synth sound with 2 echoing beeps that fade out at the end.

Availability: It can be seen on their DVD releases from the time period. [Examples?]
