Background
Médiavision et Jean Mineur is an advertising agency created in 1971 grouping the company created by Jean Mineur in 1951, the Havas group and the Publicis group, which offers advertisers advertising spaces on the cinema screens of the major film distribution channels. 2,000 French cinemas use its services.
1st Trailer (1951-1971)
Visuals: On a farm background with a bullseye with "1000" on it, a miner with orange hair, blue clothes, and a blue hat holding a lantern and an axe named Petit Mineur (Little Miner) walks in from the right. He winks and then sets his lantern down as he prepares to throw the axe. He then throws the axe at the bullseye, and the bullseye zooms in. As the axe hits the bullseye, the "1000" jumps off of it. It then turns itself upside down (reading "0001") while "Balzac" forms and a period is placed in the middle of the number. At the same time, the background changes to a blue version of the same background with the bullseye. The Jean Mineur Publicité logo then fades in, followed by its address in place of the "Balzac 0001" text. The text then fades out, and Petit Mineur appears in the circle and winks.
Variants: Starting in the 1960s, many variants were made:
- Petit Mineur throws the axe, revealing a scared cow behind the bullseye. The cow then chases the miner. ”Balzac 0001” is already there, and Petit Mineur is in different clothing at the end.
- Petit Mineur gets his axe stuck in the background, tearing the background. He then slides in the bullseye background, and zooms in. In the end, the miner is with the ripped part of the background.
- Petit Mineur prepares to throw the axe, until he finds a bottle of San Pellegrino inside his lantern. He opens the bottle, and a speech bubble saying "Bitter San Pellegrino” flies out. He then drinks it, and the opening continues as usual. The ending instead has him pulling out the bottle and winking.
Technique: Cel animation by Albert Champeaux inspired by a drawing by Lucien Jonas.
Audio: TBA. Composed by René Cloërec.
Audio Variants:
Legacy: A very popular logo in France.
2nd Trailer (1971-1982)
Visuals: A red background fades in, and then turns into bokeh as multiple colored lines zoom in. It then cuts to brown footage with many colored horizontal lines forming, and then it starts curving. It then cuts to the bokeh background again as many colored circles and a ”MV” symbol zoom in. The line sequence is shown again, except they form the "MV" symbol. It then turns red and pink, "mediavision" comes from both sides, and two outlines of Petit Mineur come from both sides and place itself on the bottom right. It then fades to the bokeh background again, but pink. "presenté" appears below the text.
Technique: Cel animation.
Audio: TBA.
3rd Trailer (1982-1998)
This logo contains an old telephone number. Please do not try to dial it. |
Visuals: A remake of the 1st trailer, except the background is simpler, and the bullseye is orange and red. When he hits the bullseye, it fades to a blue geometric background and the bullseye morphs into the ”MV” symbol from the previous logo. “médiavision" types itself in, followed by "cinéma et publicité, Jean Mineur” and the address. It then gets replaced with Médiavision’s phone number. The "MV" symbol disappears, and Petit Mineur winks at the viewer.
Technique: Cel animation.
Audio: TBA.
4th Trailer (1998-2017)
This logo contains an old telephone number. Please do not try to dial it. |
Visuals: In space, we see Petit Mineur, now in 3D and standing on a golden ticket with a filmstrip below it. He then goes down the filmstrip on the flying ticket, and reaches Earth. It then sends him to France, which sends him to a cinema. He enters the cinema, and then throws his axe at a screen. It hits the "1000" bullseye, and then flashes to space as the numbers fly away and "médiavision” flies in letter by letter. Petit Mineur flies on the ticket before settling on the bullseye. "et JEAN MINEUR” fades in below the text, and Médiavision’s phone number flies in number by number except for "0001”. The ticket then flies towards the miner, and the afromentioned numbers fly in number by number. Médiavision’s address fades in below.
Variants:
- A short version exists, where Petit Mineur jumps on the ticket, and "médiavision” forms next to him, followed by ”presenté” below it.
- A Dutch version of this exists, where "médiavision" is replaced by an oval with "jean mineur mediavision" in it, and "presenté" is replaced by "presenteert."
- An ending version of the Dutch variant exists, where "presenteert" doesn't appear and it instead zooms in to the logo, with a static image of Petit Mineur fading on it. ”Bioscoopreclame” zooms out, and later flips over to reveal "Amsterdam", which flashes and slowly zooms in.
- Another short version exists, which is the end of the trailer, except "et JEAN MINEUR" is replaced by "CINEMA ET PUBLICITE - JEAN MINEUR", and the address is replaced by Médiavision's URL.
Technique: CGI animation by Barejo.
