Background

Entertainment in Video is an independent UK distributor started in 1978 and is currently one of the biggest. It is a home video subsidiary of Entertainment Film Distributors.

1st Logo (1978-1981)

Visuals: On a black background, four copies of the multicoloured word "ENTERTAINMENT" move towards the centre in different directions. One copy of the word remains after the others reach the centre. The white texts "in" (in a small sans font) and "VIDEO" (in a wide Western-like font) fade in beneath "ENTERTAINMENT".

Trivia: This logo is basically a modified version of the Entertainment Film Distributors logo from the time. With the exception of the 1981 logo, all further logos are based on their film counterparts as well.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: A bombastic fanfare.

Availability: Seen on the UK VHS release of Blood Vengeance (aka Emanuelle e Françoise).

2nd Logo (1981-1987)

Visuals: On a black background, four stars emerge from the left and right sides of the screen creating green, yellow, red, and blue wavy lines. The lines wave around for a while before straightening and adjusting to the center of the screen. Stars then make the lines disappear in the opposite direction of where they came, revealing a segmented "EV" (a la the first Tribune Entertainment logo) in the four colors and in squares on many light gray and dark gray lines. "ENTERTAINMENT IN VIDEO" in white appears above the "EV" via a flashing effect (a la the second Guild logo). The whole logo shines before fading to black.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: It starts with a calm electric piano tune, then it's followed by electric guitar riffs and synth keyboards.

Availability: Seen on UK VHS releases from the time-period until 1987.

Examples include Kimba the White Lion, Alien Predators (released as Mutant II in the UK), Eliminators, Re-Animator, Teen Wolf, Breeders, Rosemary's Killer, Soldier's Revenge, and Day of the Dead, among others.

3rd Logo (1987-2003)

Visuals: There is a close-up of continuously moving water. "ENTERTAINMENT" in a metallic font in the same color as the moving water emerges from said water. The logo zooms out to reveal that the water is a rectangle, and the animation of the moving water freezes for a moment. As the screen zooms out, two inverted triangles (representing a "V") of red and yellow appear from the left side of the screen. A yellow line emerges from the right side of the screen above "ENTERTAINMENT". Another yellow line appears from the top of the screen and rests above the rectangle. Two more yellow lines appear from the bottom of the screen and rest alongside the rectangle. The words "IN VIDEO" are revealed on the rectangle. The two triangles rest below "ENTERTAINMENT" and the rectangle flashes at the screen and the animation of the moving water resumes.

Variant: On rental releases and retail releases with more than one preview, the metallic words "COMING SOON" fade in below the logo just before the animation finishes.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A synth hum, followed by a "tingling" noise and an eight-note synth piano tune which ends with a gunfire-like sound.

Availability: Seen on UK VHS releases such as The Mask (also retained on the 2001 DVD release), Super Mario Bros., Sidekicks, Arcade, The Fan, Donnie Brasco, Wild Things, Ali, Rush Hour 2 and Much Ado About Nothing among others.

It is also seen on the 1986 UK VHS release of The Adventures of the American Rabbit, the 1993 UK VHS release of The Princess And The Goblin (1991), the 1994 UK VHS release of The Piano (1993), the 1995 UK VHS release of Moneky Trouble, and the 2002 UK VHS release of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), respectively.
The DVD release of Austin Powers in Goldmember was one of the final releases to use this logo.
This logo is still used as EIV's print logo today, even though the logo itself is no longer in use on-screen.

4th Logo (2002-2007)

Visuals: On a purple gradient background, the same inverted triangle from before, but in a purplish color, fades in. A bright white star reveals "ENTERTAINMENT IN VIDEO" in a bold, tall, and thin white font across the triangle. The triangle shines for a while and zooms out before fading to black.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None.

Availability: Was used in tandem with the previous logo for the first few months of its existence.

Seen on Final Destination 2, Austin Powers In Goldmember (VHS) and the second and third Lord of the Rings films, respectively.
It is also seen on the 2005 UK VHS releases of Valiant (2005), and Boo, Zino & the Snurks.

5th Logo (2007-)

Visuals: Against a black background, there is an outline of a glass inverted triangle shining. The triangle then appears in gray and with no glass, and turns a bit, casting a reflection at the bottom. Then, the words "ENTERTAINMENT IN VIDEO" shine in at the same angle as the triangle.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Originally none.

Audio Variant: Since 2010, it would have its own music, which is a short synth entry with two ding sounds.

Availability: Seen on current EIV releases, including Wild Target.
